Is the Samsung Galaxy S23 waterproof?

Is the Samsung Galaxy S23 waterproof?

Technically, no, the Galaxy S23 is not waterproof. But then, nor is really any smartphone outside the ruggedized market. Instead, the Galaxy S23 and many of today’s flagships are water-resistant. The distinction is important, as it means that they can hold their own against water, but that damage can still happen — especially if you’re constantly submerging your phone.

The Galaxy S23 series might not be fully waterproof, but it does have IP68 certification, which means it can be submerged in depths up to 1.5 meters deep, for up to 30 minutes. Keep in mind that is clear water, not salt water, soda, or other liquids.

What does IP68 certification mean?

There’s actually more to IP68 than just being water resistant. IP standards for ingress protection and both numbers actually mean something. The 6 is a score from 0-6 for dust resistance. How durable is the Samsung Galaxy S23 series?

Although the Galaxy S23 series doesn’t offer much new in terms of water and dust resistance, it’s actually a bit more durable than its predecessor. The Galaxy S23 uses the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The new standard is said to survive drops of up to a meter, even on concrete. Corning claims rival solutions failed after drops of half a meter or less. Victus 2 can also handle two-meter drops on a slightly softer surface like asphalt, just like the original Victus glass.
