What is the “i” icon?

The “i” icon offers access to additional steps and information during the pairing and unpairing process. If you tap the “i” when it appears, it will either provide further direction or open a screen with self-explanatory steps, such as a list of languages from which users can select their preferences. If you don’t want to use your iPhone’s camera, you can use the “i” icon to manually pair your devices.

To get started using your device, you will need to pair your Apple Watch with an iPhone. The first “i” icon appears to help you begin the process, first to provide information about the Watch app, and then to offer a manual option for pairing your devices.

Once your device is paired, you can locate the “i” icon again in the Watch app. Here, tapping the icon will open further information and offer the option to unpair your Apple Watch and phone.

How to use the “i” icon to pair and unpair your Apple Watch

To use the “i” icon during the pairing process, tap the symbol and follow the onscreen prompts. As mentioned, this will allow you to manually pair your device.

Once your device is paired, follow the steps below to use the icon to unpair your watch and iPhone.

  • Open the Watch app on your paired iPhone.
  • From the My Watch tab, tap All Watches.
  • Tap the “i” icon next to your Apple Watch.
  • Tap Unpair Apple Watch, then tap to confirm.
