18Birdies best golf apps for Android
Golfing if one of the most popular sports in the world. It’s easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master and it’s one of the few sports you can play well into your golden years. It’s a great activity to play with friends when the weather is nice. You’ll likely be taking your smartphone with you, so why not make it work for you? Here are the best golf apps, golf GPS apps, and golf range finder apps for Android!

18Birdies

Price: Free / $4.99 per month / $49.99 per year

18Birdies is one of the newer golf apps. It has a ton of features for golfers. They include a golf course GPS function, scorecard, stats from your prior games, leaderboards, and more. It even keeps track of friendly wagers. The free version includes all of the above features. There is also a subscription version for $4.99 per month. That includes more advanced stats, more advanced GPS, and some other features. The subscription version may not be the best idea for hobbyist golfers. However, the free version is still rather good.

Golf GPS Rangefinder

Price: Free / $19.99 per year

Golf GPS Rangefinder is one of the unique golf apps. It features support for over 40,000 golf courses and that’s impressive. Some other features include aerial maps, scorecards, a one-tap shot tracker, leaderboards, stats about your previous games, and even support for Android Wear and Samsung Gear smartwatches. There is a subscription option for $19.99 per year that adds more features. Additionally, the developers have hardware devices that sync with this app. The subscription and hardware stuff is optional, though.

Hole 19

Price: Free / $7.49 per month / $49.99 per year

Hole19 is one of the newer golf apps. It has a bunch of features, including a GPS rangefinder, digital scorecard, performance tracking, and more. It supports over 40,000 golf courses and even a ratings guide. The premium subscription features distance tracking, better stats, auto-change holes, and Android Wear support. The monthly charge is $7.49 per month or $49.99 per year. It’s not bad for hobbyists who frequently golf. However, a subscription cost isn’t recommended for those who only golf occasionally.

mScorecard

Price: Free

mScorecard is one of the few really good free golf apps. It’s basically a scorecard app. It keeps track of things like your score, strokes, fairway hits, sand saves, penalties, and other golf scoring stuff. The app also keeps record of game histories, handicap, stats, and game wagers. It does have a couple of GPS features, but that’s not why you get an app like this one. We haven’t found many scorecard golf apps that work as well as this one does. It also doesn’t have any advertisements that we could find.

theScore

Price: Free

theScore is one of the few really good sports news apps. It covers a variety of sports, including football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and also golf. That includes the PGA, LGPA, Ryder Cup, European Tour, and many others. The app is experiencing some update pains at the time of this writing. However, it’s generally a really good experience. It’s also a good idea for those who enjoy golf and other sports as well. The ESPN app also covers golf as do most all-in-one sports news apps. We also recommend Feedly for those who want something a little more personalized.

Sling TV

Price: Free / $30-$45+ per month

Sling TV is one of the best live TV streaming options for golf fans. Most golf (in the US, anyway) is either on NBC or the Golf Channel. Sling TV has both. Its base package generally comes with NBC unless there is some weird blackout restriction in your area. The Golf Channel is available with the Sports Extra package that runs an additional $10 per month. Sling Blue should deliver the NBC channels needed for national stuff. Of course, there are plenty of other channels in case you want to watch something else as well.

SwingU

Price: Free / $4.99 per month / $19.99 per year

SwingU is another one of the all-in-one golf apps. It boasts features for GPS, score keeping, and more. The free version of the app includes a GPS rangefinder, digital scorecards, handicap scores, tee-time booking via TeeOff, and support for Apple Watch and Android Wear. There is an optional subscription to Looper for some additional features, including a virtual caddie, better weather stats, club tracking, and more. The free version is good enough for enthusiasts while the subscription version is actually not half bad for those who take the game a little more seriously.

Yahoo Sports

Price: Free / $28.99 per year

Yahoo isn’t doing so great these days, but their sports news app is actually pretty fantastic. It features scores, stats, news, and highlights from most major sports, including football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and of course golf. The app works fine on its own. Those who create accounts get a few extra features but nothing serious. It’s a good, solid app for sports fans and golf fans who like other sports as well. Otherwise, the app is entirely free with advertising. The subscription is for Yahoo’s NBA League Pass and only really matters if you want to watch basketball.

Golf is a rich sport with many leagues, tournaments, and other events over the course of any given year. As it turns out, there are a ton of official golf apps out there. The PGA and LPGA have official apps do some tournaments like The Masters Golf Tournament. These apps usually have scores, updates, news, highlights, and other such information. Some of them are for temporary use, like the Masters Tournament app, but they’re actually fairly good at what they do.
