OnePlus 7T using in hand on table 2 - phone with 8GB of RAM

It wasn’t long ago that phones with 8GB of RAM were considered to have a pretty sizeable capacity. That amount of memory was a lot even for computers. Now, phones with 8GB RAM are common. In fact, smartphones are starting to offer 12GB and even as much as 16GB of RAM. While that’s arguably an overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean your phone is totally future proof, but it certainly helps.

If you’re in the market for a phone with 8GB RAM, you’ll be happy to hear there are quite a few of them to choose from — check out the best ones below.

The best phones with 8GB of RAM:

Editor’s note: We will be updating this list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM regularly as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S20 Blue back

As usual, Samsung kickstarted the year with its hottest device lineup: the Samsung Galaxy S20 family. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. Among the three, the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus are both available in 8GB variants. However, this only applies to 4G models of the handsets, which are available in Europe and other regions. The 5G variants on sale in the US come with 12GB of RAM.

There are a number of common features these two 8GB of RAM phones share. Both are powered by the same processor, come with Android 10 on board with Samsung’s One UI skin, and feature dust and water resistance. Their dynamic 2x AMOLED screens are among the best in the industry, and both devices have the same resolution.

The few differences between them are in the battery capacity, display size, and obviously the overall footprint. But despite their variations, the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus are impressive devices with high-end specs and a great design.

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Lite

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus Screen upright on table 1

The Galaxy Note 10 packs the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9825 chipset under the hood, along with 8GB of RAM. It offers less than the Note 10 Plus — which has 12GB of RAM — but is still a great option for demanding users.

The phone sports a triple-camera setup at the back, giving you plenty of versatility when taking pictures. It has a gorgeous design with a large punch-hole display featuring curved edges. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and an IP rating for protection against water and dust, among other things.

Being a Note, the phone comes with the S Pen, which has a few new tricks up its sleeve this year. These include Air Actions, which let you control certain features of the device by swiping the S Pen through the air like a magic wand. As every phone, the Note 10 has a few drawbacks, with one of them being the lack of a headphone jack.

There is also the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, which is a more affordable version of the other two Note 10 iterations. It gives up glass and replaces it with a plastic construction to save on cost. It also comes with an older generation Exynos 9810 processor, but that chipset can still get you plenty of performance.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 specs:

  • Display: 6.3-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: SD 855 or Exynos 9825
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12, 12, and 16MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 3,500mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Exynos 9810
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Cameras: 12, 12, and 12MP
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Battery: 4,500mAh
  • Software: Android 10

3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Those looking for a foldable phone with 8GB of RAM have a great option from Samsung. While the other Samsung devices in this list are superior in many ways, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip‘s lure is that it can be folded in half, much like a classic flip phone. Unfolding the device will showcase a great 6.7-inch 2636 x 1080 AMOLED display.

It has slightly outdated specs for a 2020 smartphone, but the device’s internals are still plenty powerful and considered to be high-end. Features include a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, 256GB of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip may be the best foldable smartphone made to date. Even if the clamshell-style form factor isn’t quite as useful as something like the Galaxy Fold, the quality of the hinge and display outweigh the negatives.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855 Plus
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12 and 12MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 3,300mAh
  • Software: Android 10

4. Huawei P30 Pro

Huawei P30 Pro back standing up - phones with 8GB RAM

The Huawei P30 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM under the hood, although a 6GB variant is also available. You can get the phone with as much as 512GB of storage, which can be expanded via Huawei’s proprietary Nano Memory card.

Huawei’s flagship impresses in the photography department — its four rear cameras take fantastic shots, even in super low-light conditions thanks to the company’s Night Mode. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, has a gorgeous design, and supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.

The battery is worth a mention as well, coming in at a massive 4,200mAh. Our very own David Imel got between nine and 10 hours of screen-on time during his testing, which is well above average. All these things combined make the P30 Pro one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM you can get. And since it was released before the Huawei ban debacle, future software updates are expected to be unaffected.

Huawei P30 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.47-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Kirin 980
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 128/256/512GB
  • Cameras: 40, 20, 8MP + ToF
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Battery: 4,200mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

5. OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro

OnePlus 7T Pro in hand

The OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro are the latest unlocked Android phones from the company, and both pack in some very impressive features.

For one, both have 90Hz AMOLED displays, with the 7T Pro offering a larger 6.67-inch QHD+ panel. It’s not quite as slick a refresh rate as the ROG Phone 2, but it’s better than most phones out there. It also means you can enjoy slightly higher frame-rates in games that support refresh rates higher than 60Hz.

Both devices also deliver a Snapdragon 855+ processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB to 256GB of storage, and a sizeable battery (3,800mAh and 4,085mAh, respectively). Toss in a triple rear camera (48MP, 16MP ultra-wide, 12MP telephoto) and a 16MP pop-up selfie shooter (waterdrop notch on the cheaper model), and you’ve got some well-rounded high-end unlocked Android phones.

OnePlus 7T specs:

  • Display: 6.55-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855 Plus
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Cameras: 48, 16, and 12MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 3,800mAh
  • Software: Android 10

OnePlus 7T Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.67-inch, QHD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855 Plus
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 16, and 12MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 4,085mAh
  • Software: Android 10

6. ZTE Axon 10 Pro

ZTE Axon 10 Pro design - phone with 8GB RAM

The base version of the ZTE Axon 10 Pro comes with 128GB of storage but a 256GB model is also available, and that one can be had with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The microSD card slot allows you to expand the storage for an additional 1TB, which is more than enough for the vast majority of users.

ZTE might not be a big name in Western markets, but that doesn’t mean it makes bad phones. The Axon 10 Pro has plenty to offer, including an eye-catching design and high-end specs. You also get the Snapdragon 855 chipset, three rear cameras, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The phone has a large 6.47-inch display with curved edges and offers a near-stock Android experience. The battery life is great thanks to its 4,000mAh cell, which also supports wireless charging. All these things combined make the Axon 10 Pro one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM on the market.

ZTE Axon 10 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.47-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8/12GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 20, and 8MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

7. Asus ROG Phone 2

Asus ROG Phone 2 screen in hand

The Asus ROG Phone 2 is easily one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM, and it was the first Snapdragon 855 Plus smartphone. The slightly upgraded chipset delivers a marginal CPU and GPU clock speed increase, which means you should enjoy slightly better performance than Snapdragon 855 phones.

Asus’ latest gaming phone is extremely beefy elsewhere, offering 12GB of RAM, but there is a more affordable 8GB version. Other specs include 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage and a massive 6,000mAh battery. The device also stands out as one of the few phones packing an OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Asus ROG Phone 2 specs:

  • Display: 6.59-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855 Plus
  • RAM: 8/12GB
  • Storage: 256/512GB
  • Cameras: 48 and 13MP
  • Front camera: 24MP
  • Battery: 6,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

8. Redmi K20 Pro

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro - bezel-less smartphone with 8GB of RAM

The Redmi K20 Pro is a high-end phone on a budget. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset and comes with as much as 8GB of RAM. The phone offers a full-screen experience thanks to its use of a pop up camera and features an in-display fingerprint scanner.

You’ll find a triple rear camera setup on the back of the handset featuring wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto sensors. The phone also offers a 4,000mAh battery that supports fast charging, has an eye-catching design, and comes with up to 256GB of storage. Perhaps its biggest drawback is the software experience, which is far from brilliant. Xiaomi’s skin leaves a lot to be desired, but you can always change the look and feel of the OS and add new features with a launcher like Nova.

Indian consumers can get the Redmi K20 Pro via Flipkart below. The handset is also available in Europe, but under a different name — the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. However, it only comes with 6GB of RAM.

Redmi K20 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.39-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 64/128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 13, and 8MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

There you have it. These are our picks for the best phones with 8GB RAM, although there are quite a few others out there to choose from. These include the Honor 20 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3, to name a few. If you want high RAM on the cheap, there’s also the Pocophone F1, but the version with 8GB of RAM is exclusive to certain markets and kind of hard to get.
