It wasn’t that long ago that 8 GB of RAM was considered pretty sizeable capacity, even for a computer. Now 8 GB smartphones are a thing. While that’s arguably overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your phone for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean you’re totally future proof, but it certainly helps.

So who is making phones with 8 GB of RAM right now? Surprisingly, it’s not the big boys like Samsung and LG. In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features 6 GB of RAM, while the LG V30 “only” has 4 GB. The majority of phones with 8 GB of RAM come from smaller companies that want to make their devices stand out from the crowd.

If you’re in the market for a phone with 8 GB of RAM, you’ll be happy to hear that there are already quite a few of them to choose from. We’ve compiled a list of the best ones currently available.

Editor’s note: We will be updating this list regularly as new devices launch.

OnePlus 5T

The successor to the earlier OnePlus 5, which is now no longer officially sold by the company, the OnePlus 5T might be its most expensive smartphone to date, but it still offers a great bang for your buck. Announced back in June, the high-end version of the flagship was one of the very first phones with 8 GB RAM. It also offers 128 GB storage, though that’s obviously a lot more common. The biggest hardware difference between the OnePlus 5 and the 5T is that the newer phone has a much larger screen, with a 6-inch 18:9 1,080 x 2,160 display, compared to the 5.5-inch screen on the OnePlus 5.

The OnePlus 5T also has ditched the telephoto 1.6x secondary camera found on the OnePlus 5. In its place, there’s a 20 MP 1x camera that uses groups of four pixels to help make great photos in low light conditions. Otherwise, the hardware specs on the OnePlus 5T match those on the OnePlus 5. Unlike most Chinese smartphones, it offers a very light skin on top of Android called OxygenOS. It doesn’t change the look and feel of Google’s operating system much but does add a few unique features and customization options that make it stand out from the crowd.

In addition to a lot of RAM, the device also sports a metal body that’s quite easy on the eyes. Let’s not forget to mention Dash Charge, which gets the battery up to 100 percent in around 90 minutes. The OnePlus 5T comes in Midnight Black and the version with 8 GB of RAM can be yours for $559.99.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Special Edition

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, is one of the more recent phones with 8GB RAM. Aside from 8 GB of RAM, the handset also stands out of the crowd thanks to its extremely thin bezels that are gaining popularity on the market.

It features a ceramic body and has an 18K gold coating around the camera and fingerprint sensor. It comes with high-end specs including the Snapdragon 835 chipset, a 12 MP camera with phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS), and a 5.99-inch 2160 x 1080 (FHD+) display.

It’s not perfect — no smartphone is — as it doesn’t have a headphone jack, isn’t resistant to water, and has a weirdly positioned secondary camera. You’ll find it in the bottom bezel, as there’s just not enough room on top. It is on sale in China for RMB 4,699 or around $715.

ZTE Nubia Z17

phones with 8GB RAM

ZTE might be better known for budget and mid-range phones in the U.S., but they have several higher end options, including one of the very first phones with 8 GB RAM. In addition to 8 GB of RAM, the Nubia Z17 also comes with the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset and a great design. It has minimal bezels on the sides and sports a beautiful red circular capacitive home button we’ve already seen on a number of Nubia devices so far.

The smartphone has a dual-camera setup, allowing you to capture those bokeh images that are all the rage these days, and is splash-resistant. It sports Dolby Atmos-enhanced speakers for a better audio experience but doesn’t have a headphone jack. It also doesn’t support expandable storage but the highest end variant does come with 128 GB of space, which should be enough for most people.

The Nubia Z17 isn’t on sale in the U.S., but you can still get it via various Chinese retailers such as GeekBuying. The 128 GB model can be yours for around $560, while the 64 GB version will set you back $535.
