It wasn’t long ago that 8GB of RAM was considered massive for phones. It was even considered a lot for computers. Now, smartphones are starting to offer 12GB and even as much as 16GB of RAM. While that’s arguably an overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean your phone is totally future-proof, but it certainly helps.

If you’re in the market for a phone with 8GB RAM, you’ll be happy to hear there are quite a few of them to choose from — check out the best ones below.

The best phones with 8GB of RAM:

Editor’s note: We will be updating this list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM regularly as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus

As usual, Samsung kickstarted 2021 with its hottest device lineup: the Samsung Galaxy S21 family. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Among the three, only the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus come with 8GB of RAM onboard. Better yet, the Galaxy S21 family includes some of the OEM’s most affordable flagships in years.

There are plenty of common features between these two phones with 8GB of RAM. Both are powered by the same Snapdragon 888 processor, come with Android 11 on board with Samsung’s One UI skin, and feature dust and water resistance. Their dynamic 2x AMOLED screens are among the best in the industry, and both devices have the same resolution.

The few differences between them are in the battery capacity, display size, and obviously the overall footprint. But despite their variations, the Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus are impressive devices with high-end specs and a great design.

Samsung Galaxy S21 specs:

  • Display: 6.2-inch, QHD+
  • SoC: SD 888 or Exynos 2100

Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, QHD+
  • SoC: SD 888 or Exynos 2100
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 64, 12, and 12MP + ToF
  • Front camera: 10MP

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 20

samsung galaxy note 20 review hero 1

The Galaxy Note 20 packs the Snapdragon 865+ or Exynos 990 chipset under the hood, along with 8GB of RAM. It offers slightly less than the premium Galaxy Note 20 Ultra — which has 12GB of RAM — but is still a great option for demanding users.

The phone sports a triple-camera setup at the back, giving you plenty of versatility when taking pictures. It has a gorgeous design with a large punch-hole display featuring curved edges. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and an IP rating for protection against water and dust, among other things.

Being a Note, the phone comes with the S Pen, which is better than ever. Features include Air Actions, which let you control certain features of the device by swiping the S Pen through the air like a magic wand. As with every phone, the Note 20 has a few drawbacks, with the largest among them being the “glasstic” construction.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: SD 865+ or Exynos 990
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12, 12, and 64MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 4,300mAh
  • Software: Android 10

3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G

Those looking for a foldable phone with 8GB of RAM have a great option from Samsung. While the other Samsung devices in this list are superior in many ways, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G‘s lure is that it can be folded in half, much like a classic flip phone. Unfolding the device will showcase a great 6.7-inch 2636 x 1080 AMOLED display.

It has solid specs for a 2020 smartphone, but the device’s internals come up a little short in the battery department. Features include a Snapdragon 865+ processor, 256GB of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip may be the best foldable smartphone made to date. Even if the clamshell-style form factor isn’t quite as useful as something like the Galaxy Fold, the quality of the hinge and display outweigh the negatives.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 865+
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12 and 12MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 3,300mAh
  • Software: Android 10

4. Poco F2 Pro

Poco F2 Pro back 2

We all remember the splash that Pocophone made with its F1, and now the F2 Pro is here to continue the trend. It’s one of the best phones you can get with 8GB of RAM, and it’s hands-down one of the most affordable.

While you might find other devices that perform better, it’s hard to overstate the value of the F2 Pro. It packs a Snapdragon 865 chipset, an impressive battery, and solid build quality. The display is just fine with its 60Hz refresh rate, and the camera will do in a pinch too. Most importantly, your wallet will thank you for the affordable choice.

As for the specifics, Poco’s hefty 6.67-inch display should give you all of the real estate you can ask for. It hides a 4,700mAh battery, which should keep your 5G-ready phone going all day long. Of course, you’ll have to grab the slightly more expensive version with 256GB of storage if you want a phone with 8GB of RAM.

Poco F2 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.67-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 865
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 64, 13, 5, and 2MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,700mAh
  • Software: Android 10

5. OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus 9 Pro right rear profile

The OnePlus 9 Pro and 9 are the latest unlocked Android phones from the company and both boast some very impressive features.

For starters, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have 120Hz displays, with an adaptive refresh rate and a higher resolution with the latter. You also get the same processing package with both. The two are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. They come in with 128GB of storage if you grab an 8GB of RAM version, and a sizeable 4,500mAh. OnePlus also brings wireless charging to the standard 9 this time around, while the Pro iteration gets an upgrade to 65W super-fast wireless charging.

The big upgrade here is in the camera department. A new partnership with Hasselblad ensures that software tweaks further enhance the great camera setups the two phones have. If you want to go all out, the OnePlus 9 Pro is the one to get, with its new, high-quality 48MP Sony lens, joined by an excellent 50MP wide-angle shooter and a decent 8MP telephoto unit. A 2MP depth sensor helps with portrait mode.

The OnePlus 9 skips the telephoto lens and uses an older sensor for its primary camera. There’s enough of a price difference though that if you don’t want the high-end camera unit, you can save a decent chunk of money with the regular 9.

OnePlus 9 specs:

  • Display: 6.55-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Cameras: 48, 50, and 2MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 4,500mAh
  • Software: Android 11

OnePlus 9 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch, QHD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Cameras: 48, 50, 8, and 2MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 4,500mAh
  • Software: Android 11

Google’s latest Pixel flagship comes in just one configuration. You’ll get 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a speedy mid-range Snapdragon 765G processor. The best news is that you’ll only have to splash $700 to get the Pixel 5 into your pocket.

The 2020 flagship packs a dual camera unit, though the real star of the show is Google’s incredible image processing software. You’ll find all of your favorites as far as astrophotography and night mode are concerned, and a 10MP selfie shooter. The Google Pixel 5 is an all-aluminum device, though it features a clever cutout that allows for wireless charging.

Google’s Pixel 5 comes with a pocket-friendly 6-inch display and offers a near-stock Android experience. The battery life is great thanks to its 4,080mAh cell, and you can choose from Just Black or Sorta Sage finishes. All these things combined make the Google Pixel 5 one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM on the market.

Google Pixel 5 specs:

  • Display: 6.00-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 765G
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Cameras: 16 and 12.2MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 4,080mAh
  • Software: Android 11

7. Sony Xperia 1 II and 5 II

Sony Xperia 5 II rear profile

The Sony Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II are two of the best phones with 8GB of RAM, even if their names make no sense. Both phones pack the same Snapdragon 865 chipset, though you’ll find the Xperia 1 II with an optional 12GB of RAM. Sony’s more affordable Xperia 5 II sticks with 8GB of RAM, though you can choose between 128 and 256GB of storage.

Sony’s latest phones are fairly beefy in the camera department, offering triple 12MP shooters, though the Xperia 1 II also includes a ToF sensor. It’s the larger of the two at 6.5-inches, but the 6.1-inch Xperia 5 II is comfortable for the small phone gang. You’ll find both phones equipped with 4,000mAh batteries, as well as side-mounted fingerprint readers.

Sony Xperia 1 II specs:

  • Display: 6.5-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 865
  • RAM: 8/12GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12, 12, and 12MP + ToF

8. Xiaomi Mi 11

The last 8GB of RAM phone on our list is also one of the newest on the market. Xiaomi’s Mi 11 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 onboard, and you’ll find it with either 8GB or 12 GB of RAM. You’ll find a 12GB of RAM version as well if you spring for the larger storage space.

Xiaomi tapped a triple rear camera setup to lead the charge with wide, ultra-wide, and macro sensors. The phone also offers a healthy 4,600mAh battery that supports fast charging, has a hefty 6.81-inch display, and relies on an in-display fingerprint reader. Perhaps its biggest drawback is the software experience, though it’s slowly improving. Xiaomi’s MIUI skin leaves a bit to be desired, but you can always change the look and feel of the OS and add new features with a launcher like Nova.

The Mi 11 initially launched in China and later Europe, though you can grab it from Walmart of all places down below.

Xiaomi Mi 11 specs:

  • Display: 6.81-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8/12GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 108, 13, and 5MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,600mAh
  • Software: Android 11
