TL;DR
  • Images of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro have purportedly emerged online.
  • The pictures show a phone with a 4,000mAh battery and two dual-camera setups.
  • One of the images also shows IMEI numbers, giving us more information about the device.

Xiaomi‘s Redmi Note series is renowned for offering a large battery and solid performance at a bargain price. Now, it seems like the next iteration in the series could bring some interesting camera features to the table.

Images of what seem to be the Redmi Note 6 Pro have appeared online, but the source for most of these shots isn’t clear. In any case, an image showing the front of the device seems to have originated on reddit, and it gives us some camera specifications.

Redmi Note 6 Pro as seen on reddit.

This particular image reveals a 20MP+2MP selfie camera setup and a 12MP+5MP rear camera pairing. The latter wouldn’t be a surprise, as Xiaomi has used this arrangement for everything from the Pocophone F1 and Redmi 6 Pro/Mi A2 Lite to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The 20MP+2MP selfie camera pairing is probably the more noteworthy addition here. This seems to be a camera pairing with portrait mode and depth effects in mind, rather than a secondary camera for wide-angle group shots. It’s also an interesting choice because Xiaomi has brought a single-camera portrait mode to phones this year as part of MIUI 10.

The rest of the images show a phone with a notched display, a vertically stacked dual-camera housing, a 4,000mAh battery, and at least 3GB of RAM/32GB of storage. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note phones are usually available in a few storage/RAM variants, so don’t be disappointed if this isn’t enough storage for you.

As for the processor department, the images don’t seem to give us any details. But Xiaomi has used a Snapdragon 600-series chipset since the Redmi Note 3, so we wouldn’t expect anything else.

Is this the real deal though? Well, one of the images (the first one seen above) shows the phone’s IMEI numbers and, as BardTech.com notes, searching an IMEI database reveals this is indeed a Xiaomi phone. The database also gives us the model number M1806E7TG, and this particular model number appeared on the FCC website last month.

All in all, it suggests that a Redmi Note 6 launch can’t be too far away. Then again, the Google Pixel 3 leaked several months before the October 9 launch event, so we might be in for a wait yet.
