One of Garmin Connect‘s many strengths is its ability to create and download custom and pre-made workouts to your watch. This lets you take any activity with you. But how do you do it? Here’s everything you need to know about Garmin’s pre-made and custom workouts.

How to download pre-made workouts on Garmin Connect
Garmin Connect has a fair number of decent pre-made workouts targeting certain muscle groups or focusing on a specific activity. It’s a great way to start your fitness journey and alleviates the pressure of developing a workout yourself. You can download these workouts directly to your watch, provided it’s supported. Here’s how to do it.
- Open the Garmin Connect app
- Tap on the three-line main menu button
- Select Training
- Tap on Workouts
- Choose Find a workout, then browse the selection on offer
- Tap Save to My Workouts
- Tap SEND TO DEVICE to transfer the workout to your watch
The next time your watch syncs with Garmin Connect, your workout will be available to view

How to create a custom workout on Garmin Connect
Creating a custom workout is similar to Garmin Connect’s pre-made workout steps, but you should note a few differences.
- Open the Garmin Connect app
- Tap on the three-line main menu button
- Select Training
- Tap on Workouts
- Select Create a Workout
- Select the type of workout. Your choices may include Run, Bike, Pool Swimming, Strength, Cardio, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, and Custom.
- On the next page, you can add steps, including Warm Up, Workout, and Cool Down actions.
- Tap on a step to add more details, including the Step Type, Notes, Move (e.g., All Fours Pose, Ankle to Knee Pose, etc.), and Duration Type (Reps, Time, Lap Button Press, Calories, or Heart Rate).
- To add more steps, tap Add Step
- To add a round, tap Add Round
- Once you’re happy with your workout, tap SAVE
- To send the workout to your device, head back to the Workouts page, select your workout, then tap SEND TO DEVICE
While some workouts on Garmin Connect come with animated instructions on performing certain moves, not all Garmin watches support these animations.
