The biggest entertainment and pop culture franchise at the moment is the Marvel comic book superhero universe. Almost any movie or TV connected to it is a big hit. One of the best places for Marvel content is the Hulu streaming service.
With Netflix’s cancelation of its Marvel TV shows, Hulu is set to become a much bigger source for original Marvel movies and TV content. While Disney Plus will also have its own original Marvel TV shows when it launches later in 2019, Disney effectively controls the content of Hulu as well.
Let’s take a look at all of the Marvel movies and TV shows currently on Hulu, along with all the upcoming Marvel Hulu-exclusive shows launching in the next year or so.
Marvel Hulu movies and TV shows
Editor’s note: We will be updating this post as new Hulu Marvel shows and movies debut, and others leave the service.
1. Iron Man 2
Before Disney Plus launches and takes a lot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies with it, you can watch Iron Man 2 right now. The 2010 film is the third in the MCU series and it brings back Robert Downey Jr. in his second outing as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man. The movie, while not as good as the original, is still very fun to watch, mostly to check out Downey Jr. and his performance as the witty billionaire industrialist. This is also the first movie that features Scarlett Johansson playing the role of super-spy Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a.The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who has appeared in a ton of MCU movies since Iron Man 2.
Also, we see the first appearance of Don Cheadle, taking over the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes, who dons the War Machine armor for the first time.
2. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (Season 6 and upcoming Season 7)
You can watch previous seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on Netflix, but if you want to watch the current season of this ABC show based on the MCU movies, you have to go to Hulu. You can watch the last two episodes of the Season Six, which has a couple of current storylines. One has Fitz and Simmons out in space, and the other has the rest of the team dealing with Agent Coulson’s alien doppelgänger. Interesting stuff, and it’s only on Hulu. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will return for a seventh and final season on ABC in 2012. The 13 episodes will show up on Hulu the day after they are broadcast on ABC.
This Marvel Hulu original series is based on the acclaimed comic of the same name which combines superhero action with adolescent angst. Six teenagers learn they each have superpowers, but this is not a cause for celebration, as they also learn their parents are part of a secret supervillain group called The Pride.
As you might expect, these kids decide to fight their parents rather than join them, all while trying to figure out the normal teenage issues of love, acceptance, and more. Two seasons of Runaways are available on Hulu and a third is due in 2020.
4. Cloak and Dagger
Here’s another teen-based Marvel Hulu show. This series shows its episodes first on the Freeform cable network before they go to Hulu. It features two kids who get special powers after an accident at the Roxxon corporation. After the incident, Cloak can envelop people in darkness and transport them to another dimension, and Dagger can create very bright white shards of light that serve as daggers. You can watch both seasons in full on Hulu, but it’s unknown if this show will get a third season.
5. The Gifted
The two seasons of the recently canceled Fox TV series are still on Hulu. Marvels’ X-Men franchise is the basis for The Gifted, set in a world where people mistrust mutants. The famed X-Men superhero team has disappeared before this series begins and the mutant population is severely controlled. A family with two mutant children goes on the run and links up with an underground resistance group that is trying to protect and help mutants. While no future seasons are planned, The Gifted is still an excellent series, especially if you’re an X-Men fan.
Another Marvel Hulu series based on the X-Men franchise, Legion was first broadcast on FX and features David Haller — a mutant with massive telepathic and telekinetic abilities. After being taken by a government agency, Haller is rescued by a mutant support group called Summerland. That’s the simple synopsis; the full truth of Legion is full of wacky and weird events that make it unlike any show on TV.
You can watch the first two seasons of Legion now on Hulu. The third and final season just finished at FX and it will be on Hulu sometime in 2020.
7. Agent Carter
One of our personal favorite Marvel live action TV shows, Agent Carter is a direct spin-off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Peggy Carter, first introduced in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger, is back as a secret agent working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR), the organization that would later turn into S.H.I.E.LD.
Carter goes on missions in New York City in the first season and Los Angeles in the second season. She’s aided by Tony Stark’s dad Howard Stark, along with Stark’s butler Jarvis. This is a historical spy drama with some superhero-themed action. It’s a pure delight, and was truly canceled too soon. Thankfully, Hulu has both seasons.
8. Helstrom – 2020
In 2020, Hulu plans to launch Helstrom. The show’s official description says that it will center on Daimon and Ana Helstrom, who are the children of a “powerful” serial killer. In the Marvel comics, Daimon is actually the son of Satan himself. Whether or not that will be the case in the Hulu Marvel show is still unknown.
9. Marvel Hulu Adult Animated Series
Here’s a quick look at the five (yes, five) Marvel animated series aimed at adult audiences that will make their way to Hulu sometime in the near future:
- M.O.D.O.K. — This show will focus on the Marvel supervillian with a really, really big head. Actor and comedian Patton Oswald will be one of the two showrunners for this series. Fun fact, that character’s name stands for Mental Organism Design Only for Killing.
- Hit-Monkey — A monkey who works as an assassin takes on Japanese organized crime.
- Tigra and Dazzler — Two women, a human-tiger hybrid and a lady who generates lots of bright lights and wants to be a singer, live in Los Angeles. Comedian Chelsea Handler is a co-showrunner for this series.
- Howard the Duck — The talking duck just wants to get back to his home planet in this series which will have movie director, and major Marvel fan Kevin Smith as one of its showrunners.
- The Offenders — All of the main characters in the previous four series join forces in this crossover show.
That’s a look at the Marvel Hulu shows you can watch now and the ones popping up on the streaming service in the future! We’ll update this list as Hulu updates its library of Marvel movies and TV shows.
