Three new Chromebooks, one new Chromebox announced by Intel and Google

At their developer forum in San Francisco, Intel has offered up three new Chromebooks and one new Chromebox, all using their Haswell processor. That architecture is going to “improve battery life by more than 2X over previous generations, while offering increased performance” according to the Google Chrome Blog.

Google’s first-generation Chromebooks haven’t quite made it to the mainstream yet, but the search giant has decided not only to follow up on those devices, but also to step up its game a bit.

The makers of the web-centric Chrome OS have upped the ante in terms of tech specs, equipping the new Chromebook with a far snappier processor than the first-generation one, but also with more RAM. Aside from the new Series 5 Chromebook 550, Google has also released a brand new Series 3 Chromebox, similar with Apple’s Mac Minis, but available at a lower price point.

Day 2 keynote from Google I/O available online

Day 1 of Google I/O featured all the “cool” announcements, with the introduction of Android 4.1 Jellybean, the Google Nexus 7 tablet, and the Nexus Q. The long keynote ended with a live demo of Google Glasses, which included skydivers jumping of a blimp. So, how do you top that?

Google and Samsung unveil new Chromebook and Chromebox, already available for sale in the US and UK

Google unveiled the “Chromebook” concept and launched the first such products around a year ago, but the devices manufactured by Samsung and Acer haven’t exactly caught on. However, Larry Page and Sergey Brin’s company is not one to give up a fight so easily. This is why we’re happy to announce that the second-generation Chromebook has just been released and looks like a significantly upgrade to the computers from 2011.
