T-Mobile Galaxy S9 Android Pie update started and stopped (Update: Started again!)
Update, February 13, 2019 (01:54 PM ET): It appears T-Mobile has officially restarted the rollout of Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. According to users on Reddit, the rollout is actually happening this time:
We’re still not sure why T-Mobile started and then stopped the rollout, but we can assume it probably had something to do with RCS, since that’s a major difference between this rollout and the same rollouts from other U.S. carriers.
If you own a Galaxy S9 from T-Mobile, check for the update now. However, it might take a while before it makes it your way.
Original article, February 12, 2019 (03:30 AM ET): T-Mobile confirmed that the Android 9 Pie update rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus had begun. According to T-Mobile’s software update support pages (via PhoneArena), the deployment started yesterday.
However, shortly after, T-Mobile halted the rollout. We’re not quite sure why, but T-Mobile assured us that it will “resume at a later time.” Whether that’s a few hours, a few days, or even a few weeks, we don’t know.
Once the rollout begins again, it will probably be best to download the update on Wi-Fi rather than mobile data as the download comes in at a hefty 1988.79MB, with firmware version G965USQU3CSAB for the S9 Plus and G960USQS3CSAB for the S9 standard.
Once you’re updated, you can expect the typical Android Pie features liked adaptive battery and new gesture navigation, as well as a revamped version of Samsung’s One UI skin. What’s more, T-Mobile has included support for the RCS 1.0 universal profile, putting the S9 and S9 Plus among the few handsets to embrace the new messaging standard. You can read up on everything you need to know about RCS at the link.
This rounds off the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Pie update for the major U.S. carriers and we’re now only waiting on for it to hit the unlocked models. Let me know if the comments if you’ve received Pie yet and what you think of the new software!
