How to screen record on iPhone or iPad

Screen recording is a nifty feature, and it’s easily accessible on your iPhone and iPad as well. You don’t need any third-party app, as this feature comes built right into iOS and iPadOS. There are a couple of easy steps involved. Here’s how to screen record on iPhone or iPad.

To screen record on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings -> Control Center and click the green plus (+) button next to Screen Recording under More Controls. Swipe down from the top right side to open Control Center and click the Record button (button with two concentric circles).

How to record your screen on iPhone or iPad

The screen recording option can be accessed from the Control Center. However, you will need to add it to the Control Center from the Settings.

Adding the Screen Recording button to the Control Center

  1. Turn your iPhone or iPad on and unlock the device.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap Control Center.
  4. Find the Screen Recording option under More Controls, and click the green plus (+) sign button next to it.

The screen recording button will now be available in the Control Center.

  1. Swipe down on your screen from the upper right corner to open the Control Center.
  2. Tap the Record button — the one with two concentric circles.
  3. There will be a three-second countdown before the display starts being recorded.

Screen Recording on iPhone or iPad with external audio or screen sharing

You can also use the screen recording feature in iOS and iPadOS to record external audio from the microphone or share your screen in a social media or video conferencing app like Discord.

To record external audio:

  1. Swipe down on your screen from the upper right corner to open the Control Center.
  2. Tap and hold the Record button — the one with two concentric circles.
  3. Tap the Microphone option to enable external audio recording.

To share the screen of your iPhone or iPad in an app:

  1. Open the app in which you want to share your screen.
  2. Swipe down on your screen from the upper right corner to open the Control Center.
  3. Tap and hold the Record button — the one with two concentric circles.
  4. From the list, tap the app you want to share your screen in. It will be Photos by default to signify the recording being saved to the photos app.
  5. There will be a three-second countdown before the screen sharing begins.

Stop the Screen Recording on iPhone or iPad

To stop the screen recording on an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Control Center and tap the Stop button that appears in place of the Record button.
  2. Alternatively, you can tap the red recording icon (iPad) or the red-colored capsule showing the time (iPhone) on the status bar. Click Stop to end the recording.

You can find your screen recordings saved in the Photos app. Note that some longer recordings can take a while to process, save, and show up in the Photos app.
