Looks like Samsung Gallery has already found its OneDrive replacement

- Samsung is ending a partnership with Microsoft that saw images backed up from Samsung Gallery stored in OneDrive.
- OneDrive will instead back up photos to Google’s cloud storage in the future.
- Images stored this way will be accessible in both Samsung Gallery and Google Photos.
Samsung announced earlier this year that it would stop working with Microsoft OneDrive to store user images and videos in the cloud. That partnership is officially ending at the end of September, and preparations for nixing the functionality have already begun. Now that Microsoft is on its way out, we’ve learned Samsung will partner with Google for cloud storage going forward.
As spotted by X user Sandeep Adap, a new version of Samsung’s Gallery Cloud Sync service has popped up on the Galaxy Store. The service’s description specifies that it backs up photos and videos in Google Cloud.

It doesn’t seem like the change in cloud service provider will change much from a user experience perspective; once in effect, your images will simply be uploaded to Google’s cloud storage instead of Microsoft’s.
The option to sync images to OneDrive started disappearing from Samsung Gallery in May, well ahead of the announced September 30 end date. Microsoft has said that after that date, your images stored in its cloud infrastructure will no longer be accessible through Samsung Gallery, but you’ll still be able to retrieve them directly from OneDrive. You can even continue backing up your images in OneDrive, if you want, you’ll just need to set that up through the OneDrive app.
Options to sync with Google are already appearing inside Samsung Gallery for some users, though the functionality doesn’t seem to be live yet.
According to new support documentation from Google, images uploaded from Samsung Gallery to Google’s cloud storage will also be available in Google Photos. That’ll make getting to your images more convenient in some cases, but if you liked Samsung Gallery because it helped you avoid storing your images in Google Photos, you might want to make other arrangements in the next couple of weeks.
Samsung hasn’t officially announced the change. Ideally there’ll be a way to easily move your photos from Microsoft’s cloud storage to Google’s to continue accessing your existing images through Samsung Gallery, but we don’t know about that just yet.
