How to restart the Galaxy S10 (soft reset)

If your Galaxy S10 phone is just running slowly, is unresponsive, or if an app on the device isn’t working properly, you’ll want to reboot your device or perform a soft reset.  Here’s how to reset the Galaxy S10:

  1. Turn your display on by pressing the Power button.
  2. Once your display is on, press and hold the Power button.
  3. After a few seconds, you’ll see three options on your screen: Power off, Restart, or Enable Emergency Mode.
  4. Tap the Restart option on the screen.
  5. Your Galaxy S10 will now restart.

If your Galaxy S10 isn’t responding at all when you press the Power button, try this method:

  1. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons at the same time for at least seven seconds.
  2. Your Galaxy S10 will now restart.

How to factory reset the Galaxy S10 (hard reset)

If your Galaxy S10 has problems that cannot be fixed with a soft reset or restart, you may need to perform a factory reset (or hard reset). This will revert your Galaxy S10 back to its original factory settings and erase everything you have on your phone, so make sure all your data is backed up before performing this reset. If you’d still like to perform a factory reset, follow these instructions:

  1. From your device’s home screen, pull down the Notification shade from the top of your device’s screen.
  2. Tap the Settings cog.
  3. Scroll down and tap Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Factory data reset.
  5. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  6. Enter your PIN or Password.
  7. Tap Delete all.
