Original article: March 6, 2020: We were very happy to see OPPO resurrect the Find name in 2018, delivering the rather slick OPPO Find X back then. The Find series skipped 2019, but it’s finally back in 2020 with the newly announced OPPO Find X2 and X2 Pro.

The Find X2 series is clearly a premium flagship line, sporting a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED screen supporting 120Hz at 3,168 x 1,440. Speaking of the high refresh rate, OPPO’s new phones offer motion compensation to interpolate content to 60fps or 120fps.

In terms of endurance, the Find X2 and X2 Pro offer 4,200mAh and 4,260mAh batteries respectively, and 65W charging capable of topping up the phones in just 38 minutes.

A new camera king?

OPPO Find X2 Pro back standing up

OPPO also teased the Find X2 series’ camera capabilities a few months ago, and the Pro model clearly has the superior setup on paper. You can expect a 48MP IMX689 main camera, 48MP ultra-wide angle camera (IMX586, 120 degree FoV), and a 13MP periscope camera on the Pro model (offering up to 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom).

In fact, the Find X2 Pro’s IMX689 main camera has larger pixels than other 48MP, 64MP, and 108MP cameras (1.12 micron pixels versus 0.8 micron pixels). This should result in better low-light capture capabilities at full-resolution. But you can also expect better pixel-binned shots, equivalent to a 12MP 2.24 micron pixel camera. Meanwhile, other 48MP sensors offer pixel-binned snaps equivalent to a 12MP 1.6 micron pixel camera.

Furthermore, the Pro model’s main camera supports All Pixel Autofocus for improved focus results. More specifically OPPO says this technology allows all pixels on a sensor to assist in focusing (as the name suggests).

It’s also worth noting that the 48MP ultra-wide camera is capable of pixel-binning, which means you’ll get 12MP ultra-wide snaps in low-light. But broad daylight means you can make the most of all those pixels for detailed ultra-wide photos.

Meanwhile, the standard OPPO Find X2 delivers a 48MP IMX586 main camera, 13MP ultra-wide shooter (IMX708), and a 13MP telephoto camera (5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom).

Both phones also sport 32MP selfie cameras, macro shots via the ultra-wide cameras, and 4K/60fps recording. It’s a little disappointing that 8K recording isn’t available here though, but totally understandable given 8K TV penetration right now.

Maybe don't buy into the 8K video recording hype yet

In terms of design, the Find X2 Pro is clearly the top dog as well, offering IP68 water and dust resistance (there’s no word on the Find X2’s rating). The Pro model is available in a rather vibrant Orange vegan leather edition and a Black version made out of ceramic material. Otherwise, the standard Find X2 is also available as a Black ceramic model as well as an Ocean colorway made out of glass.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro will be available in a 512GB flavor for €1,199, while the standard Find X2 will be available in a 256GB model for €999, and a Lamborghini edition, with a design inspired by the Aventador SVJ Roadster, for around €1,660. All three devices will be available from “early May.”

OPPO India announced on May 14 that the Find X2 would make its way to India “soon” on Amazon. You can sign up for updates about the device’s launch here.
