Google Duo joins the dark side with new dark mode

Google Duo joins the dark mode club in its latest update.

Dark mode has become all the rage recently, and Google is leading the trend. Now, the Mount View company’s video chat app, Duo, will also get the honor of joining the dark mode club in its latest update.

Android Police noticed the update began rolling out a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, the new black and gray paint job will come to the app in a server-side update, so even sideloading the latest APK won’t do the trick.

Duo’s dark mode uses the same gray color as several of Google’s other apps, and it applies to the entire app interface. Text becomes light gray or white, and the bold blue becomes pastel.

Like much of Google’s application suite, Duo follows the system dark mode settings in Android 10 by default. Android 9 users can take advantage of the automatic theme switching as well by enabling the functionality in the Developer Options. You can also change the theme manually within the app settings regardless of Android version if you prefer.

The update should be rolling out soon, but we don’t know exactly when. Make sure Duo is up to date, and keep checking back into the app to use the functionality as soon as it is available.
