Apple may have arrived years late to the foldable phone party, but it’s certainly made an impression with the iPhone Duo. The company’s first foldable has a near-creaseless display, some interesting software tricks, and a $1,999 price tag. It’s impressed some of us here at Android Authority, although others still prefer Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. The opinion we’re always most interested in is yours — could the iPhone Duo actually tempt everyday Android users to switch sides? We put the question to our readers.

The poll appeared in an opinion piece by Dhruv Bhutani, who explained why the iPhone Duo might finally persuade him to abandon Android after 15 years. He’s particularly taken with the phone’s wide design, almost invisible crease, and polished software experience, feeling that Apple has delivered the complete foldable package he’s been waiting for. The cameras are a compromise he’s willing to make, although he wants to try the phone before parting with $2,000. Based on the poll, let’s find out how many of you shared his enthusiasm.

The largest group of respondents, at 38.9%, said they weren’t interested in foldable phones at all, while another 34.4% were sticking with their Android foldables. That left 16.1% who were sold on switching to the iPhone Duo, plus another 10.6% who were tempted but felt the cameras needed to catch up.

It tracks that more than one in three readers don’t care about foldables — it’s still a relatively niche and expensive market — although the fact they’re reading an article about them might suggest a possible future purchase. If we exclude those voters who are not foldable fans, the figures are 26.4% keen to switch, 17.3% tempted, and 56.3% sticking with Android.

Allowing for the fact that our readership is naturally inclined towards Android, that’s a pretty respectable showing for Apple’s first foldable. More than four in ten respondents who expressed interest in foldables are at least open to switching to the iPhone Duo, and over a quarter are already sold on it. You wouldn’t necessarily expect that level of enthusiasm for a $2,000 Apple device from an Android-focused audience. That said, the poll was in an article in which Dhruv made a pretty compelling case, so perhaps he managed to persuade a bunch of you.

Android fan should be happy that Apple finally brought this out because competition is good.

The comments section wasn’t quite as enthusiastic, with a few Android die-hards refusing to accept that our publication could objectively appreciate an Apple device. Beyond the inevitable backlash, though, some interesting points were raised. Reader Bptrades found the Duo compelling but explained that Apple’s restrictions on accessing iPhone messages through a Windows browser would make switching impractical for work. Similarly, commenter Gm wasn’t prepared to give up Android’s freedom to install third-party apps and manage files.

Others were more open to Apple’s new foldable. Galaxy Flip owner Gemsofafrica admitted, “I have a Galaxy Flip, and I have never used an Apple phone. But I am also really tempted by the iPhone Duo. However, the high price tag may be a deal breaker.” Meanwhile, Abswxyz9 suggested that Dhruv should try Chinese foldables before making the leap, having enjoyed using devices from vivo, HONOR, and OPPO. And Bptrades made another fair point: Android fans should welcome Apple’s entry into the foldable market, as more competition could encourage Samsung to up its game.
