The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has tied for the best smartphone camera crown in camera testing website DxOMark’s rankings. DxOMark published its S10 5G review earlier today, awarding it a total mobile score of 112 — the same overall score as the previous title-holder, the HUAWEI P30 Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G comes with a similar camera arrangement to the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. All include a 12MP sensor with variable-aperture lens, 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. However, the Galaxy S10 5G also features a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor on the rear, lending support to augmented reality applications, as well as bokeh-effect shots; the latter is one area that’s helped the S10 5G score its three extra points over the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Highlights of the Galaxy S10 5G camera include its autofocus, flash, and exposure, all of which scored in the high 90s on DxO. Its bokeh score was only 70 points, which matched the P30 Pro and was five points up on the Galaxy S10 Plus’ score on the same parameter.

The S10 5G received 117 points for its overall camera rating and 100 for video, where its autofocus and video stabilization were among the highlights. The S10 5G could be the phone of choice if you want to avoid shaky footage.

The S10 5G’s video texture also outshone the P30 Pro with 70 points versus 58, but the P30 Pro had far superior zoom (95 versus 74). This is something you may have expected considering the P30 Pro boasts 5x optical zoom as opposed to the 2x zoom of the S10 5G.

So, we have an idea of the two best smartphones for photography, but how do their prices compare? We’re still waiting on confirmation for the Galaxy S10 5G, but it starts at 1.39 million won (~$1,225) in South Korea and comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM. The P30 Pro, on the other hand, can be yours for $899 in the U.S. with 8GB of RAM and 256GB ROM.

Head over to DxOmark’s website for the full breakdown. Let us know what you think of the scores, and which phone you think will take the crown next, in the comments.
