TL;DR
  • A new version of the OPPO Find X could come with 10GB RAM.
  • It would be the first mainstream phone with this much memory.
  • The listing doesn’t say if there will be any other differences between models.

OPPO is apparently going to release a version of the OPPO Find X with 10GB RAM. The news comes via leaker Ice Universe who spotted the phone on TENAA. If it’s legit, this would be the first mainstream phone to come with this amount of RAM.

The listing says the 10GB RAM version of the phone will come with 256GB storage; just like the existing model, though it doesn’t say when OPPO is planning to release the device or if it will come to markets outside China. The original Find X arrived with 8GB of RAM.

For context, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S9 has only 4GB of RAM. The first ever phone to pack 8GB of RAM was the ZenFone AR which was released just last year.

That brings us to the question of just why OPPO feels the need to release a phone with that much RAM. When reviewing the Find X, David Immel found that despite it performing well overall, the phone had poor RAM management. Perhaps OPPO thinks shoving another 2GB of RAM in there will counter this.

Of course, there is also a certain amount of prestige associated with releasing a new feature first. It will help the phone stand out in the market and there will likely be at least some people willing to splash out for the first phone with 10GB of RAM; especially considering the Find X is already an impressive device.
