OnePlus has heard you: New one-hand mode in the works
OnePlus is constantly improving Oxygen OS with new features and support for stuff its community members ask for. The custom Android skin is pretty good with updates. Most recently, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro got their Android 10-based Oxygen OS 10.01 update. Now, we hear that a future Oxygen OS version might bring in support for one-handed usage.
Replying to a user’s query about one-handed usage, a OnePlus staff member wrote on the company’s forums, “We are working on the one hand mode. Please stay tuned.”
OnePlus’ phones this past year have all had display sizes ranging from 6.4-inches to 6.67 inches. With such large and wide displays, it becomes difficult for users to reach the corners or edges of the screen with one hand.
Gesture navigation on Oxygen OS already improves one-handed usage on large-screen OnePlus phones. If you want to make one-handed usage better on your OnePlus before the company rolls out the official update, you can download Nova launcher. The popular launcher offers many more gestures for one-handed use.
Another suggestion would be to make your keyboard smaller. OnePlus phones use Google’s Gboard keyboard by default, which also offers a handy one-handed typing mode. You could also try SwiftKey for further shrinking the keyboard for one-handed use.
