The OnePlus 8 series is expected to launch in the coming weeks, marking the first OnePlus flagship phones of 2020. It makes sense that we’d see the Snapdragon 865 chipset in the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, and it now seems like a company employee may have confirmed key details.

Android Authority has spotted a OnePlus employee’s LinkedIn account, listing work on a 5G device. More specifically, the account lists the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and SM8250 (Snapdragon 865) chipset.

The LinkedIn account also notes that this work is for Verizon. This lines up well with a recent OnePlus Launcher teardown by XDA-Developers, which revealed references to a OnePlus 8 Verizon edition.

The employee’s account doesn’t explicitly state that this is a OnePlus 8 series device though. But other listings on the account point to the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren (Snapdragon 855 plus X55 modem) on T-Mobile and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G for EE and Elisa (Snapdragon 855 Plus and X50 modem). So it certainly seems like an upcoming OnePlus device has a Snapdragon 865 chipset and Verizon support.

This news also comes after OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said the firm is “all-in” on 5G, but cautions that prices have risen compared to its 4G devices. Would you buy a more expensive OnePlus phone? Let us know in the comments!
