At Mobile World Congress 2019, we got our first look at a prototype of the OnePlus 5G smartphone. OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau, however, is concerned there might not be many 5G-centric apps to use on the device once it does launch.

To help spur some innovation, there’s now a OnePlus 5G app contest that will net five lucky winners 50,000 euros (~$56,863) each along with a slew of cool prizes, including the OnePlus 5G smartphone. They’ll also receive assistance in making their 5G app idea a reality.

There will also be 15 other semi-finalists who will receive just the 5G phone.

The terms of the contest are pretty simple: make a video discussing what your 5G app idea is all about and submit it to OnePlus. The OnePlus team will select 20 semi-finalists and then the OnePlus community will select the five winners.

Those five winners will each get the money, the phone, one year of 5G wireless service on EE (in the U.K. only), and a trip to OnePlus’ headquarters to meet with Lau and other OnePlus employees to help flesh out the app idea.

The major catch to the contest is that your submitted app idea can be used by OnePlus for free forever — read the full terms of the contest here.

Although 5G is just around the corner, many folks are concerned that app developers aren’t working already on developing apps and services that truly take advantage of the high speeds and low latencies 5G will offer. You can read more about how 5G could alter our lives for the better below:
