TL;DR
  • Smart home company Nanoleaf launched a slew of new products at CES 2023.
  • The 4D lighting system for televisions is a highlight.
  • The company also launched a ceiling-mounted version of its shape lights and more traditional bulbs and fixtures.

For years, Nanoleaf has been synonymous with smart lights that come in different shapes and get stuck to the wall. The company has broadened its portfolio with bulbs, light strips, and more, but is now poised to make a much more significant expansion.

At CES 2023, the company launched five entirely new products. It also launched a refresh of some of its bulbs and light strips. Notably, every single product launched at CES from Nanoleaf comes with Matter support baked in.

Nanoleaf 4D

The Nanoleaf 4D system uses a camera to sync all your Nanoleaf smart lights with whatever is happening on your TV. For example, if you’re watching a movie set in a jungle, your lights will turn hues of green during those scenes. An underwater section of a video game might turn your lights shades of blue. All this happens instantly as the camera views whatever is showing on the television.

You can mount the camera at the bottom or top of your television (the kit has everything you need for either setup). You also get a light strip with your purchase that sticks to the back of your TV, making this an all-in-one solution. Of course, the authentic experience begins when you sync other Nanoleaf products, including wall-mounted shape lights and traditional bulbs.

The 4D kit will come in two sizes: 55″ to 65″ and 70″ to 80″. Both will land in stores and online in Q2 2023 for an undisclosed price.

Sense Plus Controls and Nala

Controlling your Nanoleaf lights is pretty simple with the app or your digital voice assistant. However, sometimes you want that traditional experience of a physical switch. Enter the Sense Plus Controls, two different products that allow you tactile access to your lights.

The Sense Plus Smart Light Switch attaches to your wall using traditional wiring. You can turn your lights on/off, dim them, or cycle through modes all from this in-wall switch. The Sense Plus Smart Wireless Light Switch performs the same functions but can be removed from the wall for wireless controls.

Both switches also include ambient and motion sensors, so the lights can automatically respond to motion and lighting. Additionally, the new Nala bridge learns your habits as you go, allowing you not to need to think about your lights at all. As icing on the cake, Nala also acts as a Thread border router, making this a very versatile system.

These three products will launch in Q3 2023. We don’t know pricing yet, unfortunately.

Skylight

Nanoleaf’s bread-and-butter is light panels that stick to the wall. But what about the ceiling? There’s a solution to that now with the new Skylight system.

Like Nanoleaf’s Elements, Shapes, and Canvas lights, Skylight consists of square-shaped lights that you can configure in various ways. The lights are all RGBW-capable, so you can pick from any number of color combinations for your specific situation.

Where Skylight differs from the other wall-mounted shapes in the company’s portfolio is the inclusion of Thread support and built-in ambient and motion sensors. This allows you to customize your home’s lighting in more ways than ever before.

Skylight will be available in Q3 2023. Pricing is unknown for now.

Finally, Nanoleaf is refreshing its lineup of bulbs, strip lights, and other “normal” solutions. The new versions of these products will come with Matter support out of the box. If you already own Nanoleaf products, though, don’t worry: you’ll get Matter support via a software update at some point in 2023.
