5 Android phones you should buy instead of the Motorola Edge (2026)

The Motorola Edge (2026) was announced this summer alongside a variety of other Motorola devices. While it’s not the most impressive device in terms of raw processing power, it holds a fairly intriguing camera package and an eye-catching new design this time around. Of course, it’s also a bit expensive for a mid-ranger, with a starting price of $600.

Before deciding if Motorola’s latest is the right one for you, you should check out some of the best alternatives to the Motorola Edge as well.

Google Pixel 10a

The Google Pixel 10a is not only cheaper than the Motorola Edge at $500, but it also offers better software support. While the Motorola Edge should see three years of security patches, it is only expected to see around two or three OS updates in its lifetime. In contrast, the Pixel offers seven years of OS updates and bug fixes.

Motorola has a clean UI and a more minimalist approach that feels familiar to Google’s vision, though Google obviously puts much more resources into evolving that experience. This means you’ll get better AI features out of the box, better camera optimizations, and more.

Even if the Motorola Edge (2026) might seem pretty close in software capability right now, years from now I can guarantee you that the Pixel 10a’s software will have had several major feature drops, new OS versions, and other changes — while Motorola’s software will feel fairly static.

It’s not just that this phone is cheaper and has better software; you’ll also find the Tensor G4 is just as capable as the Edge’s MediaTek chip in nearly every way that matters. In fact, the Tensor is notably better for machine learning and other software-based optimizations.

Of course, the Motorola Edge (2026) isn’t without a few advantages of its own. Motorola’s mid-ranger is noticeably lighter, slightly thinner, and it actually offers a 3x telephoto lens. Most mid-range devices skip out on a dedicated telephoto lens, so that’s one way the Edge does stand out. Beyond that, you’ll also find the Motorola Edge (2026) has much faster 60W charging and battery life that can easily make it to two days.

Moto G Stylus (2025)

Like the Motorola Edge but want to save some cash in the process? The Moto G Stylus (2025) might be a year old now, but you’ll also save at least a couple hundred over the Edge. Keep in mind there is an even newer G Stylus available, but it adds very little to the mix and is only around $100 less than the Edge.

The Moto G Stylus (2025) doesn’t have the same premium looks as the Edge, nor does it have as much power under the hood. Still, the gap between the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC and the Edge’s MediaTek Dimensity 7450 isn’t necessarily as massive as you might imagine. You’ll notice slower performance, but it should still handle just about any Android app or game you throw at it.

The Moto G Stylus is an entry-level device, so you can expect it to have a few other downsides compared to higher-tier models — such as lower max brightness on its display, a slightly smaller battery, and a lower-tier camera configuration.

Despite being a lower-tier product, the Moto G Stylus (2025) does stand out for a few features, though. First, it’s a much bigger device with a 6.7-inch display. It is also one of the few remaining phones out there that still offers a built-in stylus. If you care about saving cash, you’ll find that this phone still offers a decent enough experience. Even better, you can set the money aside for extra savings, an emergency repair fund, or whatever else might be more pressing.

Nothing Phone 4a Pro

The Motorola Edge (2026) is a decent mid-ranger that looks good, has reasonably decent specs, but beyond that it pretty much blends into the crowd. The Nothing Phone 4a Pro is priced similarly at $500, but it offers a much more unique aesthetic that’s like nothing else out there.

The star of the show is the Glyph technology that delivers notifications and more with a simple visual indicator. Beyond that, you’ll find a phone with a sort of retro-like vibe, though performance between the two should be reasonably similar. In fact, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is actually a bit stronger than Motorola’s MediaTek chip, at least on paper.

Where the Motorola Edge likely ends up punching harder is in the camera department, with the 50MP Sony Lytia 710 primary sensor onboard. Of course, the Nothing Phone 4a Pro isn’t a slouch here either, as it’s one of the few mid-range devices to ever offer a dedicated periscope telephoto camera. Beyond the camera, the Motorola Edge is also the better choice if you’d rather have a lighter, slimmer device with an OS that’s closer to Google’s vision.

Motorola Razr (2025)

I would highly recommend taking a closer look at the Motorola Razr if you like the idea of the Motorola Edge but wish it stood out even more. While the latest model costs around $800, you can actually get the Motorola Razr (2025) for about $50 less than you’d pay for the Edge.

Not only is the Motorola Razr a head-turner, but you’ll also find that it has a slightly larger display than the Edge when unfolded. The good news is it’s reasonably powerful, too. While it has a slightly older MediaTek 7400X processor inside, the GPU and CPU are identical, and the only real differences are around network connectivity, and there’s a slight AI performance boost.

The Motorola Edge (2026) does have a more interesting camera configuration, but overall you’ll find that both phones offer similar capabilities just in very different form factors. The Motorola Razr (2025) isn’t going to noticeably outperform or underperform the Edge, but it will certainly get a lot more attention for its design.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE

Motorola, Nothing, and Google are probably the best brands if you want a good Motorola Edge alternative with a similar minimalist vibe. If you don’t mind a heavier hand on the software side, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE could be an equally decent alternative.

While Samsung’s Exynos chips might not be as exciting as Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs found on today’s flagship phones, the Exynos 2400 is a notable step up over the Motorola Edge’s MediaTek processor. It also has a much larger 6.7-inch display, which could be enough to win folks over who aren’t impressed by the Edge’s smaller 6.3-inch screen.

Like the Google Pixel 10a, you’ll also get a much better OS update guarantee with the Galaxy S25 FE. While the Motorola Edge (2026) promises up to three years of OS updates and two additional years of security patches, the Galaxy S25 FE boasts a seven-year promise.

The only major downside is that the Galaxy S25 FE is late into its life cycle, with a Galaxy S26 FE expected to hit within the next month or so. The good news is that you should be able to find the phone on sale for much less than its $650 asking price soon, so we’d shop around before jumping on this one to make sure you get it for a good price.
