TL;DR
  • Google has announced that Magic Eraser is coming to Google One subscribers.
  • That means all Android users and even iPhone users can now use this Pixel feature.
  • Google also said that older Pixels will gain this tool, extending to the original Pixel.

Magic Eraser is one of the most heavily touted features on Google Pixel phones, allowing you to easily erase objects and people from photos. The feature is available on the Pixel 6 series, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7 phones, but Google has confirmed that it’s now coming to more devices.

The Mountain View company announced that Magic Eraser will be coming to all Google One subscribers, including those on iOS, from today (Thursday, February 23). So that means even iPhone owners can use the object removal tool if they’ve got a Google One cloud storage plan.

Magic Eraser isn’t available on older Pixel phones, but that’s also changing today as Google confirmed that the Pixel 5a and older models will get the feature. A Google representative told Android Authority that this support extended all the way to the original Pixel phones, released back in 2016.

What else is coming to Google One?

This isn’t the only feature coming to Google One subscribers on Thursday, as the search company confirmed that an HDR video effect and exclusive collage designs are coming as well. The former lets you enhance the contrast and brightness of your videos, akin to the existing HDR effect for photos.

Finally, Google One subscribers in the US, Canada, EU, and UK can now get free shipping on print orders. This is subject to a minimum threshold that varies by region, though. For example, Google told us that US subscribers will get free standard shipping for canvas prints and free economy shipping on photo book or photo print orders of $12 or higher.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Magic Eraser land on other Android phones. Tinkerers managed to unofficially get Magic Eraser up and running on non-Pixel phones shortly after the Pixel 6 series release in 2021. So it’s not a total surprise to see this feature officially coming to all Android devices. However, it’s interesting to see this key Pixel feature landing on iPhones too.
