TL;DR
  • The iPhone Duo comes with several camera features specifically designed for a foldable form factor.
  • “Kid Cue” plays animations on the outer screen to grab kids’ attention and is similar to the Pixel’s “Made You Look” feature.
  • The iPhone Duo also features “Smart Take” for easier group photos, previews on the outer screen, and more.

Apple has finally done what we’ve been hearing about for months. Alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the company launched its first foldable iPhone — the iPhone Duo. It has a wide-folding form factor and features an IP68 rating. Plus, Apple has given it some useful new camera tricks.

Taking group photos could be easier with the iPhone Duo thanks to “Smart Take.” This feature lets users take group photos without setting a camera timer. The group can strike a pose, and the iPhone camera automatically snaps a picture. It also works for individual photos and could make taking selfies easier.

The iPhone Duo also adopts a nifty camera trick we first saw on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Apple’s latest foldable can use its outer screen to play animations that grab kids’ attention, prompting them to look at the camera for a photo. Apple calls this “Kid Cue.” However, Google has offered this feature — called “Made You Look” — since the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It can certainly be useful to get kids and pets to look toward the camera when you’re trying to take their photo.

The foldable iPhone also gets several other useful camera features that are now considered standard on any foldable phone. Users can take selfies with the 48MP primary camera using a preview on the outer display. This preview can also help with regular photos; subjects can check the framing and their pose on the outer screen and make adjustments before the picture is taken.

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and will be available for pre-order on October 16. It will go on sale starting October 23.
