At its big product event in Cupertino today, Apple’s finally announced its first folding phone, the iPhone Duo. The rumors we saw turned out to be largely true: the foldable comes in a shape similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a squat silhouette when closed and unfolding into an iPad-like form factor.
Apple’s main pitch for the new iPhone Duo is, of course, the ability to carry a relatively big screen in your pocket. The foldable will come with multitasking features like the option to run two apps side-by-side, a first for iPhone.
Apple says the Duo’s internal display is “perceptually crease-free” thanks to a custom nano-textured finish. It also says that the screen’s crease won’t deepen over time, but we’ll have to see well that claim holds up in the real world.

Apple’s cagey about battery life expectations, but says the phone will offer all-day battery life. It’ll also charge up to 50% in 20 minutes, the company says.
The phone sports dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, a primary flanked by an ultrawide — though it lacks the iPhone 18 Pro‘s variable aperture. The exterior front-facing camera is located in the corner of the display, while the interior selfie cam is Apple’s first under-display camera, hidden when it’s not in use.

The Duo will work with the Apple Pencil stylus, and, predictably, MagSafe wireless charging. It’s powered by Apple’s latest 2nm A20 Pro chipset, with the entry-level model packing 256 gigs of storage. It won’t have FaceID, but instead packs TouchID into its power button.
It’ll also come loaded with Siri AI, Apple’s latest LLM-infused voice assistant. Siri AI can do things like access content from across your apps based on the context of what you’re doing at any given time, tell you about what the phone’s camera sees, and take action for you, drafting emails and creating calendar entries. Apple does note that some features will come with usage limits, but you can get higher limits with paid iCloud subscriptions.
You’ll be able to get the iPhone Duo in Star White or Night Sky colorways, both of which are built with “aerospace-grade aluminum.” It won’t be cheap, though: The iPhone Duo starts at $2,000, right in between the $1,900 Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the more premium $2,100 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo start October 16, with general availability beginning October 23.
