Pinning locations can be vital in any navigation app — not every place worth visiting has a labeled address, and often tech companies aren’t keeping up with housing developments. In this instance, we’ll share how to pin a location on your iPhone using Apple Maps.

How to drop a pin in Apple Maps
There are a couple of ways to drop a pin in Apple Maps. The first lets you drop a pin anywhere:
- Tap and hold a location in Apple Maps until a Dropped Pin marker appears.
- Tap Move, if necessary, to refine the pin’s position.
- Swipe up from the bottom card to see details such as an address (if available) and exact latitude and longitude.
- Tap the More (…) menu to see further options. In a moment, we’ll cover a couple of these in detail.
If all you want to do is mark your current position — say, to tell friends how to find you — just tap and hold the Apple Maps homescreen icon and choose Mark My Location. The rest of the pin interface is identical to the steps above.
How to share a pinned location in Apple Maps
With a pin selected, tap the More (…) button, then Share. You’ll see all the available options on your iPhone, including frequent contacts and supported services, such as AirDrop or Messages. Note that only other Apple users can get more than a static web view — if the person you’re sharing with is using Android or Windows, try Google Maps instead. In fact, if you’re using Chrome for Windows, trying to get directions to a shared Apple Maps pin will kick you over to Google Maps anyway.
How to add a pinned location to Favorites on Apple Maps
Adding a pin to your Favorites is extremely easy — in its More (…) menu, just tap Add to Favorites. You can remove a pin from Favorites the same way.
To view your Favorites list, just select your Apple profile image from anywhere in the app, and then the Favorites category when it appears. Tap directly on a pin name to view a location, or on the Info (i) button to rename the pin or change its type (Home, Work, School, or generic Address). You can also remove a Favorite via the Info view.
