How to clean up duplicate photos on your iPhone
As of iOS 16, the process is ridiculously simple. What you’re actually doing is merging content — your iPhone will keep the highest-quality image and delete the lower-quality one, but combine all other associated data. Follow these steps:
- Open the Photos app and select the Albums tab.
- Scroll down, and select Duplicates under the Utilities section.
- Tap the Merge button next to every duplicate you want to fix. This applies to videos as well as photos.
If you’ve accidentally purged something important, you can recover deleted files via Albums > Recently Deleted. You have 30 days before files are deleted permanently.
