Is this the fully-equipped Pixel Tablet we haven't seen yet?

TL;DR
  • A code hunter has found evidence of a Pro version of the Pixel Tablet.
  • The variant has the same codename as the vanilla Pixel Tablet, only with a “Pro” attached to its name.

Google has already given us plenty of information about the Pixel Tablet thanks to early reveals at I/O 2022 and then the Made By Google event back in October. The leaks have done the rest, deeming the Pixel Tablet a stay-at-home device lacking a modem, GPS, proximity sensors, and more tech you would usually find on the iPads of the world. But what if Google has reserved all this for a higher variant of the Pixel Tablet?

Code-digger Kuba Wojciechowski has come across a reference to a possible Pixel Tablet Pro in the Google Camera Go app.

Apart from spilling some information about a possible Pixel 8 camera feature, the app’s code referenced a device called “TangorPro.”

Tangor is strongly believed to be the codename for the Pixel Tablet. The code text not only refers to the regular Tangor, aka vanilla Pixel Tablet but separately mentions the words TangorPro, strongly indicating a Pro variant of the Google slate.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen code evidence of the Pixel Tablet Pro. 9to5Google‘s APK insight team also found references about the device back in September.

It’s unclear whether this is a device Google plans to release alongside the standard Pixel Tablet next year or if it’s something the company is working on for the future.

There’s also no information about the possible specs of the so-called Pixel Tablet Pro. The upcoming Pixel Tablet will be equipped with Google’s first-gen Tensor chipset. Given it’s releasing in 2023, we were hoping to see the Pixel 7-powering Tensor G2 on it. Could the Pixel Tablet Pro be the one to get the new chip? Could it also be the version that adds cellular connectivity, GPS, and other features missing from the Pixel Tablet? Guess we’ll just have to wait for more details to appear about the alleged Pixel Tablet Pro before jumping to any conclusions.
