Google has just launched the Pixel 10a, and it’s basically the same phone as the Pixel 9a. In fact, both phones use the Tensor G4 processor. However, the Pixel maker has now confirmed to us that the new phone has a significant connectivity upgrade.

Google representatives told Android Authority that the Pixel 10a uses the Exynos Modem 5400 instead of the Pixel 9a’s Exynos Modem 5300:

The Exynos Modem 5400 is a notable upgrade over the older Exynos Modem 5300 seen in the Pixel 9a. The new modem stands out from its predecessor thanks to its support for non-terrestrial networks (i.e., satellite connectivity). This is why the Pixel 10a now supports Satellite SOS functionality, allowing you to get emergency assistance in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

Our reviewers didn’t report any major cellular connectivity issues with the Pixel 9a. Nevertheless, a more modern modem should also improve reception and deliver a more efficient experience in general. So we’re curious to see whether the Pixel 10a delivers better battery life on cellular networks compared to the Pixel 9a.
