TL;DR
  • Google is expanding Ask Play for deeper search journeys.
  • The tool is now available outside of app pages to help with app discovery.
  • Ask Play provides a high-level summary of complex searches and understands context for follow-up questions.

Finding an app in the Play Store is easy when you know exactly what you’re looking for. However, it’s a little harder when you only have an idea of what you want. Fortunately, Google is solving this issue by expanding one of the Play Store’s most helpful features.

Ask Play about this app” was first introduced in 2025 and appears within an app listing. While not available on all app pages, the tool allows you to dig up information on an app without having to leave the Play Store. It can really come in handy when you want to know something specific about an app, like does this language learning app also offer chess lessons? Now, Google is expanding this feature to improve app discovery.

Google is rolling out an update to the Play Store to bring Ask Play outside of the app page. You’ll now be able to use the feature to find apps through natural conversation. In addition to surfacing apps, the tool can tell you everything you want to know about the app, even about newly added features. It can also provide high-level summaries of complex searches and understand the full context of the user’s question, allowing follow-ups that guide the user to the right app.

This Ask Play update is far from the only announcement Google made today during I/O 2026. For example, the company is also rolling out a Google Play Sidekick overlay, which is designed to keep players focused on the game, even when searching for tips.
