The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 might fix the TriFold's problems without getting pricier

Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold has a somewhat rocky history. Samsung’s first-generation triple-folding smartphone launched in the US in December 2025, only to be discontinued a few months later. However, rumors of a Galaxy Z TriFold 2 have been circulating ever since the original TriFold went out of stock, and we’re now getting even more details.

According to leaker Lanzuk, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will feature a thinner, lighter, and more durable design. Samsung has reportedly reduced the phone’s weight and thickness, two key drawbacks of the original TriFold, which measured 12.9mm thick and weighed 309 grams.

Samsung is reportedly also considering an early launch for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, as well as its rumored slidable phone. The TriFold 2 was expected to launch sometime in 2027, but the iPhone Duo launch may be a major reason the company is considering moving up its timeline.

It’s worth noting that Samsung could very well stick with a 2027 timeline for the TriFold 2, especially if it runs into issues with the rumored new hinge design.

Perhaps the most interesting part of today’s leak is the pricing information. Samsung is reportedly trying to keep the TriFold 2’s price “nearly identical” to the original Galaxy Z TriFold’s $2,899 price tag. That will be interesting to see, especially with memory and storage costs forcing nearly everyone to raise smartphone prices. We’ve already heard that the Galaxy S26 series could see a price hike of up to $100, so keeping the TriFold 2’s price in check will be difficult, to say the least.

Samsung spent most of iPhone launch day throwing snarky remarks at the iPhone Duo and dismissing it as Apple “reheating leftovers.” However, if today’s leak is accurate, Samsung’s adjustment to the TriFold 2 timeline suggests the company is taking the iPhone Duo more seriously than it would like to admit.
