A new rumor points to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus having five cameras: three on the rear, and two on the front. That's a lot of lenses.

TL;DR
  • A new rumor suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus could sport five camera lenses: three on the rear, and two on the front.
  • If true, it would likely be Samsung’s first triple-lens rear camera to market.
  • The rumor also suggests different numbers of camera lenses for the other Galaxy S10 models.

The HUAWEI P20 Pro was the first smartphone to market to feature a triple-lens camera setup on the rear of the device. However, Samsung might be planning to one-up Huawei with a triple-lens setup on the back of the Galaxy S10 Plus while adding a dual-camera setup on the front, for a total of five lenses.

If this rumor (via SamMobile) is true, the Galaxy S10 Plus would likely be the first Samsung device to market with three camera lenses on the rear. But it wouldn’t be the first with two lenses on the front – that record belongs to the Samsung Galaxy A8, which launched earlier this year.

Earlier rumors point to Samsung releasing three versions of the next iteration of Galaxy S smartphones, and the number of camera lenses could help distinguish the various devices and their respective price points. It’s possible that the S10 Plus will have five lenses, the regular S10 will have four (three on the back, one on the front), and a new entry-level S10 will have three lenses (two on the back, one on the front).

Samsung Galaxy S10e hands on

This is all speculation at this point. However, given the runaway success and stellar reviews of the HUAWEI P20 Pro, it’s pretty much a given that at least one of the Galaxy S10 flagships will have a three-lens shooter on the rear.

According to the SamMobile rumor source, the Galaxy S10 Plus will feature the 12MP dual aperture lens of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus combined with a 16MP, f/1.9 aperture, 123-degree super wide-angle lens.

Although we don’t know anything about the two selfie-shooters on the front of the Galaxy S10 Plus, the aforementioned Galaxy A8 features a 16-megapixel primary sensor paired with an 8-megapixel secondary sensor. It’s possible the S10 Plus could use the same or similar setup.

The Galaxy S10 likely won’t launch until March of 2019, so even if this information is accurate right now (which it may or may not be), the plan has plenty of time to change.
