Yesterday, Cloudflare released its highly anticipated Warp VPN to the public after months of setbacks. It first announced Warp in April, and it allowed people to sign up for early access before the full release planned in July.

Before today, there were about two million people on the waitlist to try Warp. The demand for the service was higher than Cloudflare expected, and developing the VPN was harder than it initially thought, pushing its release back a couple of months. Cloudflare explains these setbacks in-depth in a recent blog post.

Marketed as “a VPN for people who don’t know what VPN stands for,” Warp’s goal is to provide accessible mobile internet security to the everyman. It replaces Cloudflare’s existing VPN app and is as simple to use as flipping a switch.

Warp comes with two service options — the basic Warp service and Warp Plus. The basic option is free without bandwidth caps or limitations, while Warp Plus offers an even faster experience for a $4.99 monthly subscription. You can also earn 1GB of Warp Plus free by referring a friend.
