Renting a car has changed very little over the last couple of decades. You walk in, show your information, pay some money, and walk out with the keys to a car. Even today, the process isn’t much different. However, you can now use apps to locate car rental places and many companies have apps that help expedite the process. Travelers and vacationers rent cars frequently. It’s better when you can just get it over with quickly. Here are the best car rental apps for Android. Of course, if you only need to run an errand or two and don’t need a whole car, you can always hail an Uber, Lyft, or taxi with these apps too. Sometimes ride-sharing is the faster, easier, and cheaper alternative.

The best car rental apps for Android

Carngo

Price: Free / Varies

Carngo is a smaller app but it has a lot of good things going for it. It works with Alamo, AVIS, Hertz, National, Payless, Ace, SIXT, Enterprise, Europcar and more. That makes it a fairly competent middle man for car rentals. The app is easy to work with and use. You book your car, pick it up when applicable, and drop it off when you’re done. The prices are fairly run-of-the-mill and there isn’t all that many surprises. It’s not everyday that we see an app this smooth in this space. You may want to shop around still, but we found the app quite pleasant to use. The Google Play description and the website have a list of countries and airports where this app actually works. We appreciate knowing for sure and not needing to guess.

Enterprise

Price: Free / Varies

Enterprise screenshot 2020

Enterprise is one of the biggest names in car rental apps. Or really in car rental in general. The app does a pretty decent job as well. You can check out what cars Enterprise has available at the locations near you. You can also schedule a reservation, manage your account, and manage your rentals. Enterprise does have international support. You can use pretty much anywhere they have a location. The app is free to download. As you may imagine, rentals will cost money.

Expedia

Price: Free / Varies

Expedia is one of a few all-in-one solutions for car rental apps. This one covers car rentals along with airplane flights and hotels. You can use an app like this to find bundles on things like rooms, flights, and car rentals to save yourself a few bucks. Additionally, the app has discovery features in case you’re going to a city that you don’t know. We wouldn’t recommend such an app for someone who needs just a car a rental. However, it’s a good solution for those planning a vacation or a business trip somewhere.

KAYAK

Price: Free / Varies

KAYAK is another all-in-one solution for car rental apps. A lot of the same stuff applies here as it did with Expedia. You can plan an entire trip through this app. That includes the plane flight, the hotel, and the car rental. It can do some other things as well. This one boasts mobile-only deals, a trip organizer, step-by-step instructions for airport navigation, and countdown timers to keep track of your travel plans. Those who need just a car rental may find this app too bloated for their needs. However, it’s a good app to plan a whole trip, even the car rental.

Priceline

Price: Free / Varies

Priceline is one of the more popular travel apps. It works similarly to the others on this list. You can book hotels, plane flights, and car rentals with this one. It also offers travel deals, bundles, and mobile deals. That means it could save you a few bucks. Like most, this one should work worldwide. It has its fair share of issues. However, most of them don’t affect your usage much. Again, those who need one of the more basic car rental apps may need something less complicated than this.

Orbitz

Price: Free / Varies

People know Orbitz for their clever marketing campaigns. Thankfully, their app is actually pretty decent. Like most all-in-one apps, it lets you book most things. That includes hotels, car rentals, plane tickets, and even some activities. They also boast a variety of travel tools to help make things easier. It has a few issues here and there like most big name companies in this space. However, it should work most of the time. You can use this as a car rental app alone if needed.

RENTAL24H

Price: Free / Varies

RENTAL24H is a relatively decent car rental app. It’s an aggregate service that helps you find car rentals near you from 1,600 different car rental companies. It works all over the world as well. Some additional features include the ability to rent cars based on certain attributes (4×4, luxury, minivan, etc) and you can book cars directly from the app. It works a bit like Priceline and others, but this one focuses solely on car rentals. RENTAL24 also has all of the big names like Hertz and Enterprise so you can kill two birds with one stone. It works as intended and it’s actually one of our favorite options.

Rentalcars.com Car Rental App

Price: Free / Varies

RentalCarsCom screenshot 2020

Rentalcars.com is one of the most popular car rental apps available. They source most popular car rental services. That includes Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, and several others. It also boasts 49,000 locations worldwide, prices in 91 currencies, and support for 40 languages. You can find a rental car pretty much anywhere you go. The process is relatively painless, but not perfect. It’s the one we’d recommend first since it does source most of the other services and its app is better than most of theirs.

Skyscanner

Price: Free / Varies

Skyscanner actually boasts itself as an all-in-one travel app. It can do the usual stuff. That includes car rentals, booking flights, and booking hotels. It also includes price drop alerts, 30,000 car rental locations worldwide, and it should save your recent searches. The app itself is the cleanest, best-looking one on the list. Some parts of the app could use a little more finesse. However, it generally works pretty well. Like all of the other all-in-one apps, we’d recommend checking out a more specific app if you’re just looking for car rentals.

Turo

Price: Free / Varies

Turo is one of the most unique car rental apps. It sources cars from everyday normal people instead of from a company. It’s kind of like Airbnb for cars. The idea is that you rent a car from an individual. They bring you the car, you pay them to use it for a few days, and then go on your way. The app is still newer, comparatively speaking. However, it is coming along nicely compared to its early days. It’s also only available in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada right now. However, we’d like to see something like this grow more.
