You can now shoot those awesome night sky photos with your Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a
Google Pixel 4’s amazing Astrophotography mode is now coming to the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and Pixel 3a. The feature is available through the official Google Camera 7.2 app available on Play Store.
Google confirmed in October that older Pixel phones will be getting the coveted ASTRO mode. Now, users on Reddit (via 9to5Google) are reporting that their Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a smartphones are indeed receiving the Google Camera app update through the Play Store.
The new ASTRO mode on older Pixel phones will be part of Night Sight and will auto-detect very dark shots. As Google puts it, the ASTRO mode is “HDR+ on steroids”. In our testing of the feature on the Pixel 4, we were greatly impressed by what we saw. You can see some of the awesome ASTROphotography mode images we clicked in the Google Drive photos here.
Google Camera 7.2 is also hitting the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. It is said to add some UI tweaks to the phones, making the experience similar to the Pixel 4. Users will notice the font size work now syncs with their system font preferences. The mode switcher also gets larger text and pill buttons on Google Camera 7.2.
Note that you will need Android 10 to enjoy Google Camera 7.2 on your older Pixels. If you still haven’t received the new Google Camera update, you can learn how to port ASTRO mode on your older Pixel phones here.
