Google has confirmed that Android XR glasses will be previewed at Google I/O 2026, giving attendees and viewers an early look at one of the company’s most ambitious hardware pushes yet.

During a press briefing ahead of today’s Android Show, Google told journalists that Android XR glasses will appear at I/O, its annual developer conference that kicks off on May 19. The company has already been laying the groundwork for its new XR glasses through partnerships with Samsung, XREAL, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster, all of whom are expected to bring Android XR-powered wearables to market.

Google first introduced Android XR as a dedicated platform for mixed reality experiences, with Gemini deeply integrated into the operating system. The company positions the platform as an alternative to rivals like Meta and Apple, with hardware built by multiple partners rather than Google going it alone.

With Samsung being one of Google’s biggest partners for Android XR, it’s possible we could get a glimpse at the rumored Galaxy Glasses at I/O. Leaked renders that surfaced recently gave us what may be our clearest look yet at Samsung’s Android XR smart glasses effort, reportedly codenamed “Jinju.” The renders showed a fairly conventional design, akin to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses.

Leaks also suggest the Galaxy Glasses could feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 chip, a 155mAh battery, a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. The wearable is also rumored to include directional speakers, photochromic transition lenses, and a lightweight design weighing roughly 50g.

Google has also been openly teasing its collaboration with XREAL on Project Aura, so those might appear at the event as well. Meanwhile, fashion partnerships with brands like Warby Parker and Gentle Monster could also show off Android XR-powered eyewear.
