TL;DR
  • The Amazfit T-Rex is getting apparently getting a successor.
  • The new rugged smartwatch is rumored to get improved water resistance and new sensors.
  • The wearable could launch in India soon.

The Amazfit T-Rex from last year is a great value-for-money smartwatch with rugged charms. It’s also highly durable, offers a 20-day battery life, and features plenty of sports modes for fitness enthusiasts. Now, it seems Huami is working on a successor to the wearable in the form of a Pro model.

A leak from 91Mobiles and tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore has revealed not only the renders of the so-called Amazfit T-Rex Pro but also all of its specs.

The new fitness watch resembles its predecessor to a T. It’s got the same unapologetically tough design with massive bezels, a chunky body, and thick straps.

As per the leak, the T-Rex Pro measures 47.7mm x 47.7mm x 13.5mm and weighs 59.4 grams. It apparently has the same 1.3-inch AMOLED display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass as the existing T-Rex.

The battery capacity also remains unchanged at 390mAh, so you can expect the same 20 days of on-time in typical usage.

Amazfit T-Rex Pro: What’s new?

A key upgrade comes in the form of improved water resistance. The Amazfit T-Rex Pro is said to feature a 10ATM rating, up from 5ATM on the existing model. That means the smartwatch will be able to survive underwater for up to 100 meters instead of 50 meters.

Elsewhere, the heart rate sensor will also see an improvement. The new watch is said to pack the second-generation BioTracker PPG sensor which supports blood oxygen or SpO2 tracking. It’s the same sensor that we’ve seen Huami use in recent wearables like the Amazfit GTS 2 and the GTR 2.

The leak also reveals that the Pro variant will come in black, green, and gray color options, and feature a new operating system.

There’s no word on third-party app support, but knowing Amazfit wearables, we highly doubt you’ll get it.

The price and launch date are the only two missing pieces of information. The Amazfit T-Rex costs $140 which is pretty competitive for a fitness watch of its kind. We expect the price of the Pro model to be in the same under-$150 range.
