TL;DR
  • The official Alcatel Twitter account revealed three new phones that will arrive on February 24.
  • The Alcatel 5, Alcatel 3V, and Alcatel 1X are budget-friendly phones with 18:9 displays and fingerprint readers on the back.
  • Details are pretty firm on the Alcatel 5 and 3V, but the 1X is thin for information.

We had a blast at CES 2018 taking the three new Alcatel devices for a spin, but we left with no release dates. Now, straight from the official Alcatel Twitter account, we do: The Alcatel 5, Alcatel 3V, and Alcatel 1X all will land on February 24.

The three phones will represent the three different pricing and performance tiers Alcatel is going after: the 5 series for the budget flagships, the 3 series for the mid-tier options, and the 1 for the most affordable lineup. As of right now, we don’t have reliable pricing on any of the Alcatel devices coming on the 24, but we speculate that the Alcatel 5 will come in just under $300 and the 3V for just over $200.

Features

We covered the Alcatel 5 at length in this article, and are pretty confident it will come with a 5.7-inch, IPS LCD in an 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ 1,440 x 720 resolution. Inside, it will likely have an octa-core MediaTek chipset, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage, expandable via microSD. Outside, there will be a fingerprint scanner, and a single rear camera, most likely with a 12 MP sensor.

Overall, the Alcatel 5 looks like a stunning device at a really low price point.

The 3V, which we talk about a lot here, is expected to have a bigger 6-inch, 2160 x 1080 display. Inside, it’s likely to run on a quad-core MediaTek chip, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage space. On the exterior, expect to find a fingerprint scanner and dual cameras: a 16 MP and 2 MP working in tandem.

With the 1X, we are kind of in the dark. At CES, we held a matte device with a single rear camera, a fingerprint sensor on the back, and a smaller, lower-resolution 18:9 display. As for the hardware and pricing, it’s all speculation at this point, but expect to be in sub-$200 range.

These phones are slated to go on sale two days before Mobile World Congress 2018 officially begins, so we will more than likely see final specs for the three new models before then.
