TL;DR
  • A Google+ user reports receiving the Android 9 Pie beta on their Xiaomi Mi A1.
  • The Xiaomi Mi A1 is an Android One device which launched in 2017.
  • If the Pie beta rollout is happening now, it’s possible the stable rollout could come by the end of 2018.

Just a few weeks ago, the stable rollout of Android 9 Pie began for the Xiaomi Mi A2. Now, it appears the beta rollout of Pie for the Xiaomi Mi A1 is starting up.

A Google+ user posted a screenshot of what appears to be an update page for the Xiaomi Mi A1. The screenshot clearly states that this update is for the Android 9 Pie beta program and brings features specific to Pie.

Check out the screenshot below:

We couldn’t find any other internet posts about Mi A1 users receiving this update, nor could we find the official word from Xiaomi about it, so take this news with a grain of salt. However, since the Mi A1 is an Android One device, it is scheduled to receive an Android 9 Pie beta at some point soon, so it’s certainly realistic that this news is legit.

If this Pie beta rollout is happening, that represents a pretty good turnaround time for Xiaomi, especially considering the Mi A1 is over a year old. We didn’t expect the beta program to begin until 2019 for this device.

If the beta rollout is happening now, it’s completely feasible that the stable rollout will begin by the end of 2018, or very early 2019 at the latest. This is great news for those of you holding on to your Mi A1!
