Motorola shows off its new wide foldable in swipe at Apple
Sep 9, 2026 — 5:03 PM ET

- Motorola has teased a new folding phone with proportions similar to Apple’s new iPhone Duo.
- The phone previously leaked last week in the form of sketches.
- We expect Moto’s wider foldable will be announced in the months ahead.
Apple announced a bunch of new stuff today: the iPhone 18 Pro, new AirPods, new Apple Watches, and its first-ever folding phone, the iPhone Duo. Based on the favorable look Apple’s given us at it so far, the Duo seems pretty great. But there’s no denying Apple is years late to the party, and Motorola’s having some fun with that at Apple’s expense.
Moto posted a video on X during Apple’s event today showing off the “Razr family,” with a caption reading “new in their hands. iconic in ours.” The video shows a split-second view of many of the company’s Razr-branded devices, from its groundbreaking 2000s-era feature phones all the way up to its latest Android foldables. It ends with a cheeky tease of its unannounced wide foldable that leaked last week.
That feeling when you hang up, and your razr says everything you didn’t. 😏
Some are just discovering it. We’ve been making it even better.
Just wait for our next move. 👀 #Razr pic.twitter.com/61hqJCytpn— motorola (@Moto) September 9, 2026
Like this upcoming wider Razr phone, the new iPhone Duo features a squarer passport-style form factor similar to Samsung’s latest (non-Ultra) Galaxy Z Fold 8. It’s not clear whether the sketches of the device we saw last week came out of Motorola directly or were created by someone outside the company who’s seen internal materials related to phone, but today’s video seems to corroborate the drawings.
The video is very much a tease. The wide foldable is shown in a black finish with its displays off, visible for all of 12 frames before the video cuts to black. You can make out the wider form factor and what looks like a horizontally oriented camera bar on the back of the phone, but not much else.
The previous leak about Moto’s wider foldable said the phone would be available “in the coming months,” but we’re not sure exactly when it’ll launch. We also don’t know how much it’ll cost, but it’ll almost certainly be less expensive than Apple’s new iPhone Duo, which starts at a wallet-melting $2,000.
