Trump Mobile T1 price hike grabs consumers by the wallet

Trump Mobile has quietly raised the price of its golden-colored T1 smartphone, bumping the handset up to $749. That marks a steep $250 increase over the $499 promotional sticker price buyers saw when the T1 Phone originally went on sale. As we noted in our Trump Mobile T1 hands-on, the T1 Phone was already a tough sell on its merits alone, and this hefty jump does nothing to sweeten the proposition.

According to an update to Trump Mobile’s T1 Phone store listing, first spotted by The Verge, the price change was rolled out with zero fanfare or official explanation.

The hardware itself remains identical: you still get a 6.78-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a Snapdragon processor, a 5,000mAh battery with 30W charging, and a 50MP camera setup, all wrapped in a gold-finished chassis. However, the $499 tag was always advertised as introductory pricing, with company executives previously hinting that retail figures could eventually climb higher. The previously used “introductory” and “promotional price” wordings have now been removed.

This sudden adjustment also comes amid industry-wide price hikes and even turbulence in the broader tech landscape, all primarily driven by escalating memory chip costs. Even so, the new $749 tag places the T1 in direct competition with heavy hitters from Google, Samsung, and Apple, and the phone doesn’t give enough reason to forgive its modest specs and questionable origins.

As teardown analysis has revealed, the Trump Mobile T1 shares substantial DNA with the HTC U24 Pro rather than being an American-made bespoke handset. Enthusiastic backers were willing to overlook those compromises during the open sale window at $499, but asking for $749 for the same mid-range experience makes the T1 a much harder pill to swallow.
