Update (07/12): The Walking Dead: Our World is now live on the Google Play Store in over 150 countries. The game, based on the zombie-centric comic/TV franchise, looks to expand on the popularity of Pokemon Go’s augmented reality, location-based gameplay with Google Maps integration and co-operative group play as you battle hordes of shambling undead.

Our World is a free-to-play game with in-app purchases that range from $0.99 all the way up to $99. Hit the button below to try it out for yourself and be sure to share your first impressions in the comments!

Original story (06/26): Even though Pokémon Go did not kick off the trend of smartphone-based augmented reality titles, developer Next Games nonetheless announced The Walking Dead: Our World in August 2017. Fast forward almost a year later, and the developer has announced that we’ll be able to try the fruits of its labor on July 12. You can watch the new trailer at the top of this article.

Based on the AMC TV show series that itself is based on the ongoing comic series, Our World lets you fight the virtual undead in AR environments based on your location. In the game, you can acquire guns, swords, and grenades, level up your character, and join other players.

You can also complete weekly challenges, build shelters, and recruit characters like Rick, Michonne, and Daryl Dixon. Think Pokémon Go, except with much more violence and deadness.

Based on the bits of gameplay we have seen since its announcement last year, Our World features an AR map of the world. When you fight zombies, you, your allies, and the undead are “placed” in the real world.

We do not know if there is an option to turn off the AR portion of the gameplay, which you can do in Pokémon Go. Generally, there is not much we know about Our World itself. We are in the dark about how micro-transactions work, how much those micro-transactions will cost, and what the game mechanics are like.
