Sprint is the next carrier to announce an awesome plan for older people

Remember when T-Mobile announced a plan specific for those age 55 and older? Sprint remembered and announced a strikingly similar plan tailor-made for those either close or already eligible for Social Security benefits.

Called Unlimited 55+, the plan includes two lines of unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data for $35 per month per line with Autopay. The first line costs $50 per month, while the second line tacks on an additional $20 per month.

Unlimited 55+ also includes Sprint Global Roaming, which lets you text and access “basic” data in over 185 destinations around the world, as well as unlimited mobile hotspot data at 3G speeds.

Keep in mind that the plan caps video streaming at 480p, music at up to 500kbps, and “cloud game streaming” at up to 2Mbps. You can increase the caps and get 10GB of faster mobile hotspot, by paying an additional $10 per line per month.

Also of note is how similar Sprint’s Unlimited 55+ plan is to T-Mobile’s. From the monthly price to the speed limitations, everything about Sprint’s plan mostly echoes T-Mobile’s offering, which sits under the One category.

This might be a coincidence, or it could be a small taste of what to expect if Sprint and T-Mobile’s merger goes through without a hitch. Sprint reportedly primed its store employees on the impending move already, so to also announce similar plans might be the next step.

Also of interest is if Verizon and AT&T announce similar plans. Newer people use less data than the rest of the population, but Sprint’s announcement means that two of the four largest U.S. carriers offer modernized plans for older people.
