Update, September 12, 2022 (01:37 PM ET): Last week, Google rolled out the September 2022 Android security patch to Pixel phones. However, the Pixel 6a was snubbed. Today, though, Google is rectifying that with the formal release of the patch to its newest budget series phone.

In addition, Google has also added two new releases for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. However, those new releases only apply to Verizon-branded models.

We have added links to the Pixel 6a factory image and OTA files in the table below.

Original article, September 6, 2022 (02:14 PM ET): The September 2022 Android security patch is here! If you own a recent Google Pixel smartphone, you can perform a software update check now in System Settings to grab it. You can also update manually or simply wait for the OTA notification.

Considering this is not a feature drop release, there isn’t much to this update besides the security patch and some bug fixes. However, it does bring some enhancements for the fingerprint sensor, which will be welcome news for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners.

You can see the full changelog here. Notably, the Pixel 6a is left out of this round, although we would expect the security patch to land on that phone in the coming days.

If you don’t want to wait for the OTA alert on your Pixel phone, you can always manually update. To download the factory image or OTA, click the appropriate link below. Don’t have a Pixel phone? The Google Pixel 6 costs just $599 and is our favorite phone from 2021.
