Samsung wants to help clean your floors with the help of smart sensors and software that are normally found on experimental self-driving cars. As part of its CES 2021 announcements, the company has introduced its Samsung JetBot AI Plus smart vacuum.

Samsung’s press release states the JetBot AI Plus includes a LiDAR sensor, which can be found in self-driving vehicles. In the robot vacuum’s case, the JetBot AI Plus uses it to track its location and detect the distance to other objects. The device has a 3D sensor that can see and know if an object in front of it is a small toy or something similar, or if it is something bigger like a chair or sofa. It can then use that same sensor to see the entire shape of a room.

AI software developed by Intel will allow the vacuum to recognize objects in a room, so it can figure out the best path to clean a floor. It will get as close as necessary to objects to clean around them but will stay away from more fragile items. It can even go under your sofa, bed or other furniture if needed. The vacuum has a 30W motor and s self-cleaning brush. Once it’s done cleaning the floors, it will go back to its charging Clean Station. The docking system will empty all the dirt and trash it has collected into a bag. Samsung says you will only need to replace that bag every two to three months.

For even more control, you can download the Samsung SmartThings app on your smartphone. It will allow you to activate and use the robot vacuum from anywhere. You can also set up places in your rooms where you don’t want the vacuum to go. It even has a camera so you can use it to monitor your home while you are away.

The Samsung JetBot AI Plus is scheduled to be released in the US sometime in the first half of 2021. The company didn’t announce a price tag for the robot vacuum, but we would expect that it would be on the very expensive side.
