Samsung will end support for Game Recorder Plus
- Samsung’s Game Recorder Plus allows users to record gameplay and insert a face-cam on screen.
- Samsung will stop supporting the app on February 28, 2018, and is warning users to back up their videos.
- If you delete the application before backing up your video files, they will be lost forever.
Samsung has long been accused of stuffing its devices with tons of apps people don’t want. Whether they duplicate the functionality of Google’s apps or are just silly things most people won’t use, there are always way too many apps on Samsung devices. The company seems to have gotten the message, and recent phones have scaled back on the number of pre-installed apps. Samsung is also consolidating a lot of its software into other projects like SmartThings.
One of Samsung’s sillier apps is Game Recorder Plus. The application allowed you to record your screen while playing games and add a face-cam by using your front-facing camera. It actually doesn’t sound that crazy when you consider how huge streaming services like Twitch have gotten, but the app always felt gimped because you couldn’t live stream from it. Sadly, it caught on, and Samsung will soon shut it down. The Game Recorder Plus service team recently posted the following message:
Hello, this is the Game Recorder+ service team.Game Recorder+ will be closed on 02/28/2018.Users who already have Game Recorder+ installed on their phones will not be able to record games from 02/28. Please use another screen recording app.Please back up your videos previously recorded with Game Recorder+.If you delete Game Recorder+ without backing up, any recorded videos will also be deleted.If you touch the save button on the recorded video, it will be saved in the Game Recorder folder on your phone.Thank you for using Game Recorder+.
If you are still interested in sharing videos of your mobile games, you can use an app like YouTube Gaming to accomplish some of the same things Game Recorder Plus allowed you to do. Plus, it has the added benefit of letting you live stream on the biggest video streaming platform in the world. If you prefer to stay away from YouTube, Samsung also has Game Live that’ll let you stream to Facebook and Twitch.
