Updated, August 7, 2020 (04:30 PM ET): The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is now up for general sale on Samsung.com and Samsung’s Canada site, Samsung.ca. It’s pricey on its own, so we’d recommend trying to trade in another smartphone to try to bring that $1,450 price tag down a bit.

The flippy little phone comes in two color variants: Mystic Bronze and Mystic Gray. To get started with your order, hit one of the links below!

Original article: July 22, 2020 (09:00 AM ET): You don’t have to wait until Unpacked on August 5 to see new Samsung phones. The company has unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, a souped-up version of its clamshell foldable phone.

The faster 5G data is the main highlight, of course. You no longer have to buy a Galaxy S20 if you want a high-end Samsung phone with speedy internet access. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G also packs improved performance regardless of your internet connection. It’s the first Samsung phone to use the Snapdragon 865 Plus chip, giving it an edge over both the original Z Flip and the S20 family. You can also get it in two new colors, the Mystic Bronze pictured here, as well as Mystic Gray. The Bronze version looks very similar to all the leaked images of the Galaxy Note 20 we’ve seen so far.

Apart from those changes, though, this is still the Z Flip you’ve known since February. It centers on a 6.7-inch, 2,636 x 1,080 display that folds into a highly pocketable shape, with a 1.1-inch outside display providing basic alerts and even a camera viewfinder. Samsung told Android Authority there are “no changes” to the RAM (8GB) or storage (256GB).

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G: More power, bigger price

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available soon, at least. Samsung will release the upgraded device on August 7 through AT&T and T-Mobile as well as Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung.com. The improved performance raises the price slightly to $1,450, but let’s be honest — if you were already willing to spend $1,380 on the LTE version of the Z Flip, you might as well pay a little more to get a more capable device.

This likely won’t be the last Samsung foldable you hear about in the near future. The tech giant is expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 2, a sequel to the Galaxy Fold, at its Unpacked event. The new model should refine the more tablet-like folding concept with a larger 7.7-inch internal display, a much more usable 6.2-inch external screen, and a mix of camera and performance upgrades it may share with devices like the Z Flip 5G and Galaxy Note 20. You won’t be hurting for Samsung phone choices this fall.
