Some Galaxy S22 Ultra models have GPS issues, but a fix is coming
- Samsung is working on a fix for a GPS issue affecting Exynos S22 Ultra models.
- Users report no GPS signal when using various mapping/navigation apps.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra offers a couple of upgrades over last year’s flagship, but the company continues to offer variants with both Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets. Now, Samsung has confirmed that the Exynos variant has a major glitch.
More specifically, Samsung has confirmed community reports that GPS functionality isn’t working properly on Exynos S22 Ultra models in Europe. Users report no GPS signal when using the likes of Google Maps and Waze.
The forum-goers also report trying a variety of workarounds with varying levels of success, such as restarting the phone, using the GPS Status & Toolbox app to reset A-GPS functionality, and calibrating the compass.
Fortunately, a forum moderator confirmed that Samsung is aware of the issue and working on a software fix to resolve it:
Latest I’ve heard from the Samsung side of things is that a software fix is being prepared to resolve the GPS issue. We’ve not been give a timescale for that (other than “soon”), but please keep a look out for upcoming software updates.
Hopefully, this means affected users don’t have to wait too long to receive the update. For now though, you might want to try some of the aforementioned workarounds if you need GPS.
