The Galaxy S22 is on course to make more cash than the S21
- Samsung confirmed that the S22 series delivered more revenue growth this quarter than the S21 series.
- This suggests stronger sales or more premium models being sold compared to last year.
Samsung released the Galaxy S22 series earlier this year, bringing improved cameras, lengthy update commitments, and slick designs. Now, it sounds like the phones are bringing in more cash than the Galaxy S21 series.
“The Galaxy S22 series, launched in the first half, also maintained solid sales momentum, posting significant revenue growth from a year earlier,” Samsung noted during its Q3 2022 earnings call.
This doesn’t necessarily suggest that the Galaxy S22 series is selling more units than the Galaxy S21 family. For one, it could mean Samsung is selling more Plus and Ultra models than it did last year. Or it could suggest that the company is selling more higher storage variants than last time.
Nevertheless, the statement does point to the Galaxy S22 family helping Samsung’s bottom line more than the Galaxy S21 series.
Foldable phones continue to grow
It looks like the firm’s new foldables are out-performing their predecessors though, as Samsung notes:
Sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 showed strong growth compared with the previous models, despite a challenging market environment.
This isn’t surprising, as every successive Galaxy foldable release has out-sold the previous product. But it does show that the company has some strong momentum in this category.
Either way, it looks like Samsung’s premium smartphones are enjoying improved commercial performance over their predecessors. That’s no small feat given that the global smartphone market plunged by 9% in Q3 2022, according to Canalys.
