TL;DR
  • Samsung has announced a portable projector at CES 2022.
  • Dubbed the Freestyle, the projector features baked-in smart streaming and audio abilities, portable battery support, and more.
  • It’s currently available to pre-order in the US.

Projectors are still pretty niche devices, but they’re incredibly useful in some instances. While most consumers would opt for televisions for consuming content, portable projectors are great for those seeking a no-fuss entertainment solution for specific use cases. It seems Samsung has latched on to this idea, unveiling a new compact projector dubbed the Freestyle.

As unveiled at CES 2022, the Freestyle is billed as a flexible, all-encompassing entertainment buddy that packs a possible 100-inch display in an 830-gram device. Baked-in Samsung smart TV features allow for a host of streaming content options and mirroring from Android and iOS devices.

The projector can rotate through 180 degrees, allowing it to display content on the ceiling if the user desires. Auto keystone and leveling features add to its usability, while dual speakers with 360-degree sound reproduction complete the home theater feature list. Beyond visual content, the Freestyle doubles as a smart speaker with far-field voice control and mood light.

Adding to the Freestyle’s allure is its power options. It’s compatible with external batteries that can output USB-PD at 50W/20V. Samsung also notes it’s the first projector that can function when connected to a standard E26 light socket without special wiring for those looking to mount it.

Samsung Freestyle: Pricing and availability

The Samsung Freestyle projector is available for pre-order in the US for $899. If you’re in other markets, expect the device to land in your region in the “following months.”
